Re: Graduate Assistant Coach arrested

I don't agree that a graduate assistant getting arrested is worse than a player getting arrested. If it were Gene, a coordinator, a position coach, then sure. Does anyone think that this will have a bigger impact than if we kicked one of our players off the team? I don't think there will be much of a longterm consequence as result of this.

Probably, the biggest thing that comes out of it is that he is made an example of. Odds are good that we never really hear of him again either way. But still, examples are good

If a student athlete makes a mistake, I would say give him another chance. But I don't think you can do that with a coach, even though he is still young.

He makes $7 k a semester and was denied a court-appointed attorney because his income was too high? Tough break.

'But I love the idea of the Sacrificial Lamb. . . There are consequences to actions. The point of the death of Christ is that Christ took on the sins of the world, so that what we put out did not come back to us, and that our sinful nature does not reap the obvious death. That's the point. It should keep us humbled. . . It's not our own good works that get us through the gates of heaven.'

I don't thing that says anything worse than he already has done... It is his right to refuse to take the test until order to do so by the court. He was exercising his right as a citizen.

This certainly isn't the end of the world, but definitely not good. I'd venture to guess this guy will no longer be part of the staff.
I think you should reserve your "I told you so speech" to see what happens once the coaching staff handles this. Much of the issue in Iowa City was the poor manner in which off-field problems were addressed.

If Gene keeps him around and he leads other coaches into similar faux paux's(sp?) then your "I told you so" speech will have some merit, but to equate this isolated incident into the disaster known as Iowa Football Disipline is a bit premature.

Cute.

This has nothing to do with how this will be handled. I feel confident Gene and Co. will deal with these things much better than our neighbors to the east.

This (my comments) has everything to do with the fact so many celebrated each Iowa mishap and my point today that we're not immune from this stuff.

I think we all realize immunity is not the issue, rather the response.

My point is: you are comparing two situations they have yet to mirror each other in any demonstrable way. But certainly go ahead and compare those oranges and apples.

Just as a Head Coach can't control all the actions of his players, he also can't control all the actions of his coaches. He can however control the reaction to the actions and this is where one earns their money.

Yeah, and what a great role model he is for his players **COUGH** Josh Hancock **COUGH** Scott Spiezio **COUGH**

Of course there's a difference between being a role model for 18-21 year old kids and professional atheletes... but still...

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

That is incorrect.

Certainly he had a "right" - I guess I expect representatives of ISU to cooperate with police, instead of making their jobs more difficult. It's a character thing. Arresting him for OWI maybe saved lives, perhaps even his own.
