The spring attendance was down quite a bit, but that is to be expected. McCarney and his staff had big ties to the state of Iowa and hopefully Chizik and his staff get to know the state's HS coaches better.

Go Cyclones!!

Re: Barrent commits to Iowa

We've had a lot of Iowa walk-on contributers, but have we really had a lot of big Iowa contributers that were recruited other than Blythe, Meyer, and Rosenfels? As long as Chizik keeps getting guys he likes I really don't care if we get a lot of Iowans.

Can't really blame him for his decision though. He made a comment about Ferentz's strong ties to the NFL and Iowa's history of sending O-lineman to the next level, and how his goal is to play pro ball. Best of luck to the kid, I guess.

Thanks...but I doubt that Barrent was looking at grad schools.

What's bothersome is the attendance at Chizik's two spring Coaches Clinics so far; they were both well below that of what McCarney used to attract.
Maybe they're scared of him. He is a scary looking dude at times.

I think that you have that right at least. If the kid wants to go to iowa, more power to him, but don't say how impressed you are with iowa's engineering program. Three of the best engineering schools in the country...and iowa. If the kid was serious about engineering, iowa would be the last choice. Then again, with football taking up most of his time, maybe an easier program is better for him. In reality, he probably won't be able to handle engineering anyway and will end up a business major.

Would have been nice to sign him, but he probably would have been on the bench at ISU until his RSJR year at least anyway. Hopefully for him he doesn't fall into the blue chip OL bust trap at UI (Larson, Felder, Doering). They actually seem to do better with walk-ons and former TEs.

Do or do not, there is no try .....Yoda

LOL...right. Watch his video and say that again. A 6'8" 300 pounder with his mobility would not be riding the bench at ISU til his junior year.

Re: Barrent commits to Iowa

LOL, who would he beat out? OMG, really? How do you know?

By the way, there is no way a 6'6" 300 pounder who is rated as the #4 offensive tackle in the country is going to ride the pine for two years and bounce around positions until he finally gets a chance at guard after several lower rated prospects are injured at a school like Iowa.

Oh wait. It already happened. And his name is Dan Doering.

Re: Barrent commits to Iowa

Sorry, I find it a little hard to believe that the 101st highest ranked recruit in the nation wouldn't crack ISU's starting lineup until his fourth year in the program. Your offensive line must be in better shape than I thought.

And BTW Doering started last year and probably would have started sooner if it weren't for a chronic foot injury he's been battling since he arrived.
