Very true, if we want to stay competitive we need to spend $. If we wait a couple of years it will be too late.

Gene Chizik: "Pwning noobs."

If you guys all had matching yellow sweatervests like Chizik, you'd be cooler. Time to get with the fashion.

I didn't realize Texas was doing more renovating on their stadium, so I did a little bit of research and found these pictures:DKR TMS Update 4/25/08

I can not wait to look at pictures like these on Phase 2 of the Jack Trice Stadium Renovation.

That's another CYCLONE.....FIRST DOWN!!!!

Boone Pickens has entirely too much money...

I like how the article points out our plans aren't that ambitious compared to whats going on around us... well I don't like whats going on around us but puts things into some sort of perspective

Of course someone else will come along and put it in the perspective of schools should be about education not football... but this isn't the board for that now is it?

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

No one here will say that. You might get a few people whining that we should build a bball practice facility first though. Practice? We're talking about practice?

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

Has there been any local coverage of the $65 mm plans? I don't watch a lot of local news and don't take the DMRag. I have heard nothing about it except for here.

Boone Pickens has too much money, but so does Mr. Albaugh in Ankeny who happened to attend ISU and has had Previous Cylcone functions etc. He is one of the richest people in the world also.

I am really suprised we haven't got something huge from him before unless I am missing it.

Glad to see JP recognize the importance of the indoor practice facility in the article and how it helped attract not only student athletes to Iowa State but the Head Coach as well.

Albaugh didn't go to ISU but I think some of his family did. However, his industry is highly invested in ISU students and research. So yes, he should give 1 billion dollars.

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?

Re: CNNSI on stadium renovations..

We'll never run with the big dogs, but that doesn't mean we can't continue with smart investments in our infrastructure. We don't have to have flatscreen TVs mounted at every locker, but we should have a stadium where people can p or puu in a reasonable amount of time. Also, we shouldn't have to have our bball athletes practicing in the state gym sweatbox. Prudent investments will pay off major dividends....

Re: CNNSI on stadium renovations..

I have always said if we can take all Big 12 schools and line up their facilities (for Basketball and Football only) we need to aim for 6-7th place. Right now we are probably around the bottom couple.

We are never going to beat out Texas, Nebraska, A&M, OU and Now OSU. So pretty much 1-5 is a done deal. The thing with OSU is they were probably had worse facilities than ISU did and now they are in the top 5. That is what money can do for you though.

If we get the practice facitlity built and the non Football offices moved to Hilton. Jacobsen gets a football makeover along with the 65 million dollar project, I would say we would be in the middle. (for now) I will say that Hilton has to be near the top of the places for basketball though. Its pretty nice, but not having the practice facility and training areas is holding that back a little

That would give us
-a nice Respectable stadium
-One of the nicer indoor practice facilities
-Football only offices for bigger, better, lockerooms, offices, training areas etc.
-Practice facilities for Basketball and offices located in the same building.
-Plus add the 53 Million in upgrades for the rest of the campus makes this look better also.

Then it becomes a matter of getting them to win. That is the real hard part....

I think the co-owner of the Hooters restaurant chain is a ISU graduate. Maybe we could rename Jack Trice as Hooters Stadium if given a sizable donation.

He lives in Waverly. Not uncommon to see Wartburg College signs at Hooters across the nation.
