I ended up going with Allegiant out of CR. About $675 per person (after all the damn tacked-on fees) for Thurs. - Mon. staying at Excalibur. I was hoping to keep it under $500 but with the flights being a little more I opted for staying an extra night.

Allegiant Air
My first search on Allegiant yesterday came up with flight+hotel at $432 for flights out of DM. Didn't book it yet because I had to consult with the couple going with us. The exact same search 5 minutes later it jumped to over $800

What the hell? I am trying to book two tickets. They put the seats on different sides of the plane, then charge a "seat selection fee." Allegiant also charges $20 for each piece of checked luggage. WTF?

Re: Anyone else looking for plane tickets to the UNLV game?

I booked on United going through Denver about three weeks ago for $285. We are leaving Thursday afternoon and returning Monday afternoon. I was hoping to avoid Denver (never had a good experience through there) but decided saving the money meant I could blow more on booze/gambling while I was out there.

Plus, we are getting a heck of a deal on our hotel from a friend of ours.

This is one of the reasons that I booked a different airline. The Alligiant flight back to Rochester leaves at 7am, my US Airway flight leaves Vegas at 11:30ish, plus it ended up being a little cheaper as well.

That is the truth. Nothing like spending a 9 hour travel day with a wicked hangover and no money.

Its a good think I still plan being drunk with lots of money on my flight. But I do have a direct flight as a backup plan just in case that doesn't work out.

and you'll pay for every peanut or drop of liquid that you imbibe on that flight too. Allegiant is the nickel and dime airline.

Don't forget to check SW air out of Omaha. We booked a 7am flight on Friday and leaving Las Vegas Sunday at 8:00pm Paid 259 total per person. Also booked a 2 bedroom suite at the Desert Rose for s $135 a night. The suite has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, livingroom, and kitchen. It's not a casino but sounds nice. It's behind the Tropicana or about 5 min. from the strip (walking distance.)

Re: Anyone else looking for plane tickets to the UNLV game?

What I now know about Allegiant Air:

1) If you book two people on the same itinerary, they charge you a higher rate. So if you have two travelers, book individually save $100.

This really doesn't matter, because they scatter you in the seating. No point to booking together if you aren't sitting together.

2) They charge a seat selection fee of $11 - $15 dollars to pick the seats that you want. So if you are traveling in a group save money by booking individually then pay the fees to move together.

3) They charge a $20 fee for any carry-on luggage.

4) Double check before purchasing for a bull-crap "Flex Fee" of $15 that is automatically checked on on the payment page. I got hosed on this one because I wasn't paying attention.

I have flown allegiant quite a bit and have never had either problem. Did you go back and add a person later? If you did the demand went up by search, not because of adding a person. I am guessing it scattered you because the flight is almost full and there are very few, if any, seats together... They pay per bag thing is becoming pretty common on smaller airlines...

Re: Anyone else looking for plane tickets to the UNLV game?

No. I tried booking together at $299 a person. I tried booking separately at $249 a person and went with latter. The seat chooser let me pick about any seat I wanted so it wasn't a crammed flight.
