I wonder who told him about TB's "sharp route running"

Re: Info on Blythe w/ Saints

I heard they are going to use him as a blocking tight end.

Yeah, some of these guys just put stuff in their articles/blogs for filler and really don't know the real truth.

I hope he's been working on the route-running. If he can improve that and become some what of an asset in the running game - he could have a decent career.

The quote is from a guy that is known as a "draft guru"...Mike Detillier. I think he mostly a local gulf south guy but he is on the radio down here quite a bit. Not sure he is always "on" with his analysis.

I think the Saints will likely keep about 6 receivers. They have 11 in camp...I would think Colston, Copper, Patten, and Meacham are in for certain. I think the other two slots will likely go to guys that bring additional value...IE: they can play special teams well...returner, coverage team, etc. I believe Blythe has a very slim chance unless he can be a strong special teams player.

I didn't realize that Todd's dad was a major league catcher. Interesting.

He played minor league ball for the Giants organization, I think maybe as high as AAA but never got "the call". Todd's parents were among my favorite teachers in high school.

I always thought he was a little strange when I was playing 3rd and he was coaching 3rd... He would NEVER stop talking...

Re: Info on Blythe w/ Saints

I believe Todd will make an NFL roster this season. There is a shortage of decent receivers in the league. Most clubs want depth there.

Todd also has experience playing special teams, he was filling a variety of ST roles for us late in this year.

Re: Info on Blythe w/ Saints

Filling a ST role for us last year and being able to "fill that role" at the NFL level are two very different things.

He may have been on the punt return team, but he's most definitely not a punt returner.

I didn't see him on the punt or place kicking coverage team all that often either.

If Todd's going to make it, it'll have to be at receiver - he'll need to improve on his route running, do something in the way of blocking for other folks and continue catching everything thrown his way.

Re: Info on Blythe w/ Saints

Todd wouldn't get away with fair-catching every punt/kick in the NFL. He was used last year because we were short on bodies.

What particulars about Todd's route running are you not impressed with? I just never noticed one way or another. Just curious.
