Thought some of these were interesting. It just blows me away that we can win the time of possession but get beat by so much in so many games last year...
Time of possession is a bit misleading I think. Yes you want the ball out of the other team's hands...but if they score quickly and at will whenever they have the ball, then T.O.P. doesn't really mean squat.
That caught my attention as well...when it is a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers (known for playing tough defense) TOP comes into play on a different level. When a team is not strong...well...I guess it doesn't really mean that much huh?
If memory serves me McCarney was always great at TOP. Also, last year it seems to me that it took us a long time to get the plays in last year. Both on offense and defense. I think number of offensive plays run is much more meaningful than TOP.

I would be 90% certain we'd win that battle as well. Chizik has said many times last season we missed that "big play ability". We'd chunk it up the field getting 3-6 yards a down, and then surprisingly enough, wouldn't have enough left in the tank to punch it in (see the Iowa game).
That being said, I believe that number will go down significantly this season
The most shocking thing to me is we only scored NINE passing TD's. I liked Meyer a lot and thought he was a good player - just couldn;t grasp the new offense. I'm thinking his graduation is not going to hurt the team one bit.

You're right. ISU ran 896 total plays to our opponents 812. Our average per play is what kills us. ISU averaged 4.4 yards while our opponents averaged 5.8 yards.
Hopefully the time of possesion stay in our favor but we can start pushing some of those drives into more touchdowns. Holding on the ball and scoring is just a killer for the other team

Not many long plays, a lot of 3rd downs, defense giving up big plays, and turnovers add to TOP. Not finding the endzone has been ISU biggest problem the past 2 years.
