Re: texas recruiting

Kids will commit to Texas, Notre Dame, OSU, Michigan, USC, Alabama, and Georgia regardless of who their coach is. Those programs are bigger than their coaching staff.............

Re: texas recruiting

mack brown, the aggies, and leach at texas tech are a year ahead of us in recruiting for 2010.stoops from oklahoma can cherry pick about 5-8 good recruits from texas.i have sent about 1200 names from texas to chizek and fountain for year 2009. i have given them about 600 names for 2010 recruiting.
the dave campbell texas football magazine hits the stands in texas on monday or tueday. i will get one and review the whole magazine for 2010 recruits.
cheers!

Our chief competitor is then Iowa?

Are you saying you copy names of high school football players out of magazines and send them to the ISU football coaches???

Re: texas recruiting

the dave campbell magazine is the bible for texas football recruiting. i conduct a lot of research on kids that are listed in campbell's magazine b4 i send information to chizik and fountain.campbell provides recruiting services to several
colleges.smoaky(dave smoak in northeast texas) has a website for northeast texas verifies the quality of athletes in east texas, smoaky is a very good friend of mine.
i follow the texas high school playoffs in all 5 classes(1a,2a,3a,4a,and 5a)and watch for good talent there. i have several good friends that are coaches in san antonio, austin, houston and in dfw.i occasionally keep in touch with them on good talent in their respective districts.if there is someone special i refer them to chizik and fountain. i did the same for dan mccarney and mac was very appreciative of it.
i have referred a kicker to mac that has kicked several field goals between 50 and 60 yards.iowa state took two kickers on schollies last year and have no interest in this kid,so i referred him to florida and let florida have a crack at him.

Re: texas recruiting

i like to watch for talent from high school games in the dallas newspaper, austin newspaper, houston newspaper, and san antonio newspaper in saturday editions of the newspapers to see which teams are winning in their respective ares. we have a kid in harlingen, texas, who is one helluva baseball pitcher.
he played for harlingen south and his name is shawn messick.
he is also a decent qb. i sent his name to pollard in the event isu has a baseball team.harlingen south did not field a baseball team this year.as a junior last year messick was 39-5 in his 3 years as a pitcher for harlingen south. in the texas all star
football game about a month ago messick was declared the mvp of the game. we tried like hell to get bradley stephens from mcallen memorial to visit iowa state. bradley and his dad
visited mac and tony alford and mac saw about 10 seconds of his video and told tony to offer him a schollie after seeing 10 seconds of his film.bradley chose texas a and m over the cyclones. he was offered several scholarships. he was redshirted last year by the ags,but i think bradley has the potential to be another barry sanders type athlete and i think
he will win the starting tailback spot at a and m this coming fall. he is an exceptional athlete and i look for the aggies to be a grind it out offense with the talent they have at the running back position. i still think they have their running backs from last year-the big 270 lbder from n.e texas(lane)plus their starter at running back. i really think stephens will be their starting tailback at a and m. i wish the hell that mac and tony alford would have landed him.i pushed iowa state at him very hard as we used the same barber and i always preached ISU to him every chance that i could.but he selected a andm over the cyclones.

cheers!

Maybe he wanted to go someplace where they have both upper and lower case letters.

Maybe I'm the lone fellow here that believes this: Give Walden administration support and he would have ripped into the conference big time. He had some fine teams in Pullman, Wash. He had exciting offenses in Ames, Iowa.

Don't de-nut him at every turn (e.g., Steve Lester), don't box him into a corner but let Walden be Walden, and he would do some fine things, I believe it. (I'm well aware that others don't like the man, but I thought him interesting and his teams fun, until be became dispirited.)

Like on so many other subjects, we fans are destined to be forever divided over these questions.

Re: texas recruiting

mr burns, maybe you would have some appreciation of lower case typing. i never took typing in high school. i suffered a stroke over 9 years ago and am handicapped on my left side. i type with one finger and to expedite typing without using
caps. i took up following recruiting as a hobby since i do not work, except farm utilizing custom labor to help me farm.i also do quite a bunch of consulting to food groups in brazil, chile, costa rica, and mexico. do that help explain your syntax patrol???????? i hope you appreciate the above.

I attended Walden's press conference when ISU hired him. When a reporter asked him why he made this move, he responded, "a coach can only win so much at Pullman."
Washington State has won a few games since then...

IIRC, A Walden WSU team came within one game of achieving a Rose Bowl bid. Remarkable, given the weak program he took over there. (Later, after Walden was gone, WSU did go, I think.) You can argue responsibly, can't you, that Walden did the grunt work at WSU by laying a foundation?

Between Forest Evashevski (1950-51) and Jim Walden, how many winning seasons did WSU post? (I think Evy was 7-3 when he left.) How many bowl bids did it earn? (I don't know the answer, maybe it's lots and I'll be surprised.)

My recollection is that Walden turned around a program where it was believed to be nigh on impossible to do. I believe he would have done that in Ames, too, given a decent chance at it. I've read on fan boards that a number of us believe Walden wasn't given a fair shot at achieving success at Iowa State. That's my opinion, too.

On the other hand, now that I think about it, why in the world would he believe that he could win at ISU if he could not win consistently at WSU? Maybe his judgment is questionable. . . .
