Re: Any word on Blythe and Tuba and the other guys
Blythe has good hands, height, and leaping ability, and can come down with the ball in a crowd, but I think he has too many drawbacks to make it in the NFL:
(1) I don't think he has the speed to create separation from NFL DB's.
(2) His blocking abilities leave a lot to be desired to say the least.
(3) Backup NFL WR's give often give teams extra value on special teams. Todd was never a good kick returner and he's not a good blocker, so he doesn't offer much to an NFL franchise as far as special teams go.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk,superdorf, clones_jer. That is all. -

blythe can make it in the AFL because it is all about the jump ball in the endzone more than short routes.

Re: Any word on Blythe and Tuba and the other guys
Speed in the NFL is overrated. Yeah I said it. There are successful WRs in the NFL that never had great speed. Joe Jurevicius, Brian Finneran are the first 2 that come to mind. Remember in the NFL the average career is less the 4 years, so to have one deemed sucessful it does not have to be that long or full of pro-bowl trophies. The one that is most suprising is Cris Carter who ran a 4.65 coming out of college. If Todd can learn to use what skills he has, good hands, concentration, leaping ability, and using his size to his benefit, he can play in the NFL. He can learn other things like setting up DBs, better route running and blocking.
Hell just in case you don't know the NFL rookie minimum is now 295K. I would have no problem being a 5th or 6th WR for that kind of money.

Cris Carter also ran great routes, something that is deemed a weakness of Blythe's at this point.

Re: Any word on Blythe and Tuba and the other guys
Blythe ran a 4.78 at the combine, a far cry from 4.55. Also he didn't have very many reps on the bench and his vertical was in the top 1/2. I remember when he thought about coming out after his junior year. Wow he fell off a bit.

Re: Any word on Blythe and Tuba and the other guys
I have heard a lot of different things regarding how Todd did at camp. Of course he says he did well But he has been lifting and conditioning for the last 2 weeks, and gets back Thursday. I will get all I can out of him Thursday and let everyone know what he says.
