Big 12 Football Deal

Watching PTI this afternoon, they discussed the deal NBC and Notre Dame just put together putting the Irish on NBC through 2020 or something like that. They also mentioned the TV deals other conferences had with TV networks, the Big Ten and ESPN, SEC and CBS and Pac Ten with Fox. They didn't mention the Big Twelve at all and that got me thinking. How big of a ratings boost for NBC would it be if they dropped the Irish, who earned a rating of 1.9 last year, for the Big Twelve? It seems like it would be a very good match with NBC picking up an immediate ratings boost and the Big Twelve finally getting a lucrative television contract with tons of exposure. Would this move be as good a thing as i think for both parties or am i living in a pipe dream?

I believe the Big 12 has a deal with ABC and ESPN.

It would definitely be good for both, IMO...

Why not just add Big 12 in addition to the Irish. That way, everyone is happy. Maybe get at least 1 game/week on NBC and take it from there...

i believe the big 12 has a deal with espn/abc first, then if they dont pick it up it goes to the fox stations. who after that have full control over all the big 12 games on whether to show them or not. Cause i think it was fox who wouldnt let mediacom show a game on the connections channel last year, not sure which one though.

Re: Big 12 Football Deal

I think the picking order is
ABC (sometimes this gets 2 big 12 teams on between their 3 games on sat)
ESPN's
FOX Sports
Versus

I could be wrong though.
I have said this all along, but I wish they would get the fox stations more games. They could do a fox sports South, Midwest, Colorado, FS College, I also wish they used ESPN classic and ESPN U for more games.

The biggest problem I see with our package is they don't split the fox sports like they could. There is a ton of fox sports channels and they don't use them.
They also don't let games not selected on local tv

Re: Big 12 Football Deal

There doesn't seem to be enough effort to get our games televised. Previously we've played night games, a Friday game, a Kickoff Classic - Florida State, a Thursday game, and so on just to get air time. I believe that if we think out of the box, we can get modfication on the agreements that are in place. We are being overshadowed by the bigger programs.

Even our season ticket holders would like to see some additional away games.

What if the Mediacom or Clonezone telecasts paid a copyright fee to Fox and we played at a designated time slot? I have no clue what the arrangements
really are, but I'm frustrated by our lack of airtime.

Of course, if we start winning, the amount of broadcasts would increase. I think the Big 12 coverage is decent, but could improve; the nonconference games are more of a problem for us.

Re: Big 12 Football Deal

There is no reason a Thursday night game against South Dakota couldn't be on Mediacom, but they are pricks about it.
I just don't see why every game isn't on tv anymore. I guess its about the $$. The more games on TV the less people watch the "Big Game" on ABC etc.

What people need to know is they can put the games on...they don't because its about contracts. I mean we could telivise the IRAQ war from a camera of a Soldiers gun if we wanted, so getting 10 cameras in Jack Trice is not a problem.

Re: Big 12 Football Deal

It's a matter of market size as much as anything. A string of 8-4 seasons might get us on once more than we have been seeing in recent years, but the small market compared to the coast teams will prevent us from ever being on more than three or four times a year. On the other hand, the B12 could do a lot more to help their small market teams get on more than they do. It seems as though the conference is happy as long as UT, OU and NU get on. The rest of us get on when we play one of those teams.

I think this hits the nail on the head.. our medicore seasons will not get us on TV except for ISU vs Iowa and when we play either UT OU and NU, look at all the kickoffs last year for home games, they were all in the morning b/c that would allow us to have TV exposure, and thats why we kept all but UNI/Iowa at 11 or so kickoffs which maybe Im alone on this idea, but that got old by the end of the season, Id like to have the afternoon time slots so we can not only get exposure, but also not have to get up every Sat at the *** crack of dawn to tailgate, most people can handle a recovery period from Friday nite.

Every time I learn something new, something old gets pushed out of my brain

how hard would it be 2 schdule, a gamer at 11:00, and then a game at 7:00. Plus usually, Oklahoma, Texas, Mizzou, or Kansas find a way 2 get on ABC, plus we'll still have ties with Mediacom, but when in doubt, just but a tickent, come and tailgait and have some fun, I think a hillside ticket is like, 12 bucks or something.

Plus, the night games are fun cause u can get there at 2 and tailgait till 6:30, plus the unforms and helmets look cool under the lights. Also more TV opportunities

As a 3rd shift worker who had to work the night before all those 11 AM games, those were tough! I made it, but I was shot all weekend long (I'm a wimp)

I would love to have every game in the afternoon

Reap the Wirbelsturm!!!
