I don't think he retired by choice. I'm not a CFL expert but I think with their money problems, Davis came to be expendable in their salary structure. As a veteran, they would have to pay him much more than a rookie, so I think he got cut and there was no market for him

Mind the gap!

83Clone...
Leaving in Canada, I know the CFL pretty well...Troy Davis is older now, and just doesnt have what he used to have. Plus he is a proven veteran which demands more money and with the salary cap there are so many more options.

Of other interestin notes...Rashaun Woods was also let go.

Did DeAndre Jackson simply never fully recover from his ACL tear?

Re: cyclones released from CFL rosters...

i heard that davis is trying to make a comeback but nobody will sign him. i wonder what ever happened to darren davis or youngest brother jason? jason was supposed to play for isu but i think he had troubles with the law? they had an older brother named eddie who played at a small school in upper iowa. i forget the name, but a friend of mine was on the team. he and eddie were both all american RBs... 2 all american RBs in the same backfield!

The older Davis played at Westmar (in LeMars), which is no longer open.

Darren suffered a neck/back injury during a CFL game several years ago which essentially led to his retirement from football.

Found this old article...

PLUS: COLLEGE FOOTBALL -- IOWA STATE; Another Davis Makes Commitment - New York Times

Also, I seem to remember that Jason Davis said he wasn't going to play football to pursue a "music career", or something like that. I couldn't find the article that talked about it.

What exactly happened with Deandre? He went from projected 2nd round draft pick to being cut from the CFL.
