Re: Any summer school folks spoken with

Haven't talked to any of them, but the incoming freshmen seem pretty energetic pretty much all the time. (Take that as you will.) I see a few of them around campus a lot. The ones I run into seem like decent guys, but dumb as a sack of bricks and have pretty massive egos. There's about a hundred high school wrestlers on campus for Cael's camp (all of whom also think they're hot stuff) and it's really funny to watch the football players and the high school wrestlers try and out-masculine each other.

Good thing cheerleading camp isn't in town.
If they were in town then campus, in the words of Razor Ramon, would be "oozing machismo."

I had to laugh at this because it is so accurate! Most of the new guys are very nice, not very bright, and VERY arrogant. They say the classes are hard, and the workouts are torture. But they seem willing to work hard on the field, so hopefully they will make sure to keep their grades up enough to play. Darius Darks, Jerome Tiller, Leonard Johnson and Hayworth Hicks are my favorites so far. Really nice guys.

Leonard Houston has eligibility left and transferred to ISU?

That's funny. Could also be a badass nickname. Jeremiah "Grown Men Cryin" Schwartz.

No cheerleaders, but for about a week, the wrestlers and the Orientation freshmen were on campus simultaneously. Dinner at the UDCC every night was a three-ring circus: every time a wrestler spotted a pair of shorts or a halter top, their head would follow it without question, regardless of what the rest of their body was doing. That meant that roughly every 90 seconds, another huge stack of dishes went crashing to the floor. Every 90 seconds, for over two hours a day, for over a week... Good thing nobody was asking these kids to walk and chew gum- there would have been multiple fatalities.

I've been hearing fun stories about the incoming freshman. Apparently MUSIC 101 is harder than it sounds...

I also heard something funny where many of the freshman athletes who are already on campus have been saying they feel so much older than the freshman that are having orientation.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that most of the athletes are probably twice the size of the "regular" freshmen at orientation.

That's the introductory music theory course. It's the most basic of the basics, but if they don't pay attention in class and don't do the homework, then yeah- it'll bite you in the butt. Music theory isn't something that's easy to catch up on. Music 102 (music listening) is another class that people expect to be easy, but generally get blindsided by... Hmm, maybe I'll swing by Music Hall and see if they want me to work as a tutor this month!

That's legitimate. We've found that most incoming freshmen who come to campus early (even if it's just a week early for marching band, much less two months early for summer school) feel that way, since they already have experience living on campus and have been busy while their counterparts have still been at home on summer vacation.

As an incoming freshman I must say I hope to god that the football players are bigger than me. They're Division I football players for crying out loud! If they wern't I would have an extremly horrible feeling about our team. Which wouldn't be good because I allready have some concerns about the S. Dakota St game. Also I was at orientation with the wrestling camp or whatever that was and it was hilarious lol. Those guys didn't even look like athletes and yet they were all walking around like god's gift to earth. lol reminded me a lot of high school.
