Maybe they're just waiting to start the sales push after announcing the major donation, and they plan on using that excitement as sales leverage. Who knows. From a marketing standpoint, I'm not sure I buy that. One, if ticket sales are going so well, you WANT to shout it out to the world. That tells potential buyers they'd better get tickets of their own before it's too late...you know, stress some urgency.
Two, you don't want to wait too long to start pushing tickets...even if a major donation is coming. By that time people may have already decided to do something else with their money, like take a vacation this summer, make a home improvement, etc. You can still push tickets now, and push them harder when and if a donation is announced.
All that said, who knows what's going on. An update would be nice I suppose.

I thought that they had decided that those old farts that originally helped build JTS and havent had to donate, would have to start donating. Am i wrong or was this just speculation?

...so at least that seems to be going well.
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that ticket sales this year are comparable to last year. Maybe slightly below last year's levels.
Last year there were a number of people (not a majority, but a large enough number to be noticed) who complained that there was too much hype leading up to a less-than-stellar season. We're probably losing some of those people but picking up some others who can see the general direction in which the program is heading.
This year's team may only be slightly better than last year's, so if ticket sales this year are already comparable to last year, there's probably not much need to hype it up again only to have a sub-par season again. If next year is going to be a breakout year as many people expect, I believe we'll see a very big push then. I am inclined to believe that sales have to be up. I can point to the way ISU really started to show some drastic improvement after the Texas massacre. They were competitive with OU who we all watched blow Mizzou out of the water and we had a couple big wins at home over Colorado and K-State. People saw the momentum building and we all know this thing isn't going to turn around overnight. The Kansas game was kind of expected but I thought the improvement was very good. Gives me confidence heading into this year that we can compete.

That being said, I doubt that there are many people in those seats who aren't giving money at some level to the Cyclone Club.
You don't buy season tickets for 35 straight years if you aren't a Fanatic

You don't buy season tickets for 35 straight years if you aren't a Fanatic Unfortunately I know a business owner in Waterloo who does just that. Buys them and gives them to employees/customers. When he told me he couldn't give them away last year I almost hit him. Lucky for him I didn't even go on a tirade about him being the reason ISU is where it is in some respects. Then he had the gall to talk bad on Pollard and the whole raising the bar idea. I almost lost my job that day.

If, however, those people have died or have otherwise passed those seats down to offspring/family, then the offspring/family should have to pony up the NCC amount to keep the seats.

Pollard said at the Quad Cities tailgate tour that there was already a few thousand (maybe 2-3???) new season ticket orders. That was back in mid-May. Unless there have been a ton of holders that have decided not to buy again, I have to think that things are going fine.

I remember reading somewhere that those tickets either were or will be from here out non-transferable, so when the holders give them up/pass on/whatever they go back into the NCC pot.

I have a friend who is in the marketing department and he said sales are slower than last year...one of the reasons the ticker isn't up.

I have also heard from a couple different sources that ticket sales are down from where they would like them to be.

Hard to imagine why....with this economy and gas prices, a 15% per game ticket increase plus an increased donation isn't the easiest thing to swallow especially coming off a 3-9 campaign.

We were late getting our tickets because we had flipped a house and we had to wait until sale was wrapped up! Things were tight this winter !!!!!!! But we moved our seats to west side upper same seat really just other side. I kinda wondered how sales were because it was so easy to just move (maybe because upper deck?) , but we like it there!
