70's had to be Matt Blair, or maybe the quarterback George Amundson......at least from what I can remember....
80's Dwayne Crutchfield
90's Had to be Troy Davis
00's Seneca

No need to qualify anything. I printed them off to keep for myself.
THANKS!

Thanks djkent01, but Jon is talking a lot about what the hawks did in the NFL
If you consider their professional careers, the order of my lists would change dramatically
For example, Keith Sims would be much higher

I listen online to kxno and they somehow hit a wrong button and played commercials during part of the second segment. I don't know what I missed, but overall it was fun to look back and remember.

It was a good show - and I got to call in and give some appreciation to John Quinn. Besides being a Dowling kid (I think), he played for the Dolphins for five years or so - although he was a backup to Marino.
OK - now, I'll let it go.

In my view, the best player was George Amundson. Was runner-up in the Heisman for a program no one had heard of. All Big 8 as both a running back and QB. Took Iowa State to a level it has not achieved before on his shoulders. Second place, Seneca Wallace. He carred an average team on his shoulders to achieve above it's level. Made Iowa State relavent again.

I do agree that Amundson was the best player. But he didn't do it just on his shoulders. Carlson was a pretty good QB on the '71 team (played with the Chiefs), and as I mentioned before ALL the receivers had pretty good NFL careers. Murdock was a jr tackle who'd become a force in '72. Pittman was a jr Center who moved to Guard after the rest of the linemen graduated.
That team worked because you couldn't just defend the run - the receivers were that good. And you couldn't defend against the pass - because Amundson was that good. It was a very solid offense!!!
