and the 70's...What are your thoughts? This is something we will discuss and debate on tomorrow's show, and I wanted to get the input from ISU fans, as well as a few ISU long timers that I am going to try and reach on the phone tomorrow before the show.

I wasn't old enough to see the 80's, but i would go with Troy Davis for the 90's and Seneca Wallace for the 00's.

Troy Davis, by far. He had no real playmakers around him for the most part to draw attention away from him, yet he had two incredible seasons back to back in a tough league.

Best player, or player who had the most impact on winning? I say this because if you relate the same question to basketball (college career)...
BEST PLAYER = Marcus Fizer / Fred Hoiberg
MOST IMPACT ON WINNING = Jamaal Tinsley
Football...
BEST PLAYER = Troy Davis
MOST IMPACT ON WINNING = Seneca Wallace

#88 Craig Mahoney. Tight end '86 - '91. Opened a lot of holes for Blaise Bryant back in the day.

I don't remember a lot of players from the 80's (i was in a constant cloud in the 80s) but I remember Dwayne Crutfield being really good. 90s would have to be T.D. and 00s is definitely Seneca. Not sure who's best between the 3.

Maybe some kind of a tribue to Ennis Haywood....even mentioning his accomplishments would be enjoyable to listen to.

This conversation has to include Seneca Wallace and Troy Davis.
My personal favorite is John Quinn. That was a top-10 team with starters, but zero depth. His junior year Quinn tore his rotator cuff and I believe we went from 5 - 0 and finished 6 - 5. The next year, Crutchfield tore his hamstring, and the team went (I think) from 5 - 0 - 1 to 5 - 5 -1. Oh for some depth with that squad.
David Archer was a talent for Criner. In fact, went on to start for the Falcons and was NFL player of the week before getting injured and never being heard from again. My God he could throw a fade route.
Then there was Tracy Henderson and Robbie Minor at the receiver slots - again, I believe under Criner.
I forget the name of the offensive lineman under Duncan - was unbelievable at ISU and went on to be a pro-bowler for the Jets. Cancer sidelined him from football, but he survived it. I remember an ISU clip where he pancaked two rushers, one with each arm. (Reynolds???)
I'll think some more, but that's off the top of my head and I'm sure I'm missing some worthy players.

To add to this list for those that chose to forget the 80's, Mike "Freakin" Busch!

Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

Marv Seiler, Ok, maybe not, but I had to say his name again and bring back the memories.
