Re: Close Up of the New Helmet

I still wish we would have gone with yellow helmets, and had the yellow and red switched on the I state logo on the helmets

I saw them at the Davenport Tailgate Tour. They're "big time" - all that and then some

I didn't compain about Danny McCarney's logo, but I thought it was not only a little tacky, but awfully busy for what you want in a logo--I've always liked Penn State's lion logo, though they don't use it on their helmets. Simple, graceful and strong.

I think this now logo is much cleaner, classier, and also has a fundamental strength. After all, you engineers should know that an "I" beam is the fundamentsl structure most of the world's great structures are built upon.

(at least, I think I know that).

Plus, as has been mentioned millions of times since last summer, Cy's not gone - the punching Cy is still around and on merchandise. Just with the new color scheme and not on the helmet.

Re: Close Up of the New Helmet

I suppose that I shouldn't ask, but...why in the world does the soccer wallpaper show somene in a royal blue uni and socks with black shorts?!

I admit to never liking soccer (always quite happily ignored the sport), but is the squad (or coach) just so determined to be different that they don't know what the school colors are? Royal blue isn't even the shade of blue used in the old "twister" Cy logo. Did the coach go to Duke or UNC or something? And who in the Athletic Department is letting them get away with it?

Back on topic--I don't really care about the photographer's reflection, you have to look closely to see it, and I'd rather have a natural pic than photoshopped--but the comment about him being "between the t and a" cracked me up.

Maybe it's just that it's 6am...

Have to say that I'd really like to know how gold--or metallic gold--would have looked on the helmets (and pants), much more than than yellow.

The soccer one is a picture of the keeper, who has to wear a different colored shirt than everyone else. Not sure why it's that shade of blue (probably so it wouldn't blend in if we played a dark blue team), but that's why it's not a cardinal or white uniform. I know in high school and other leagues the keeper usually wears the same shorts and socks as her teammates, but maybe in college they have to wear something completely different.

Nope. Played when I was younger.

I said "We" without thinking about it. "They" would've probably worked better...

Re: Close Up of the New Helmet

I have a collection of miniature replica helmets that dates back to the middle 60's - by far, the helmet that attracts the most attention is the 1967 helmet (metallic gold, with the classic walking Cy on the side). I wish we had brought that one back.
The three "finalists" from which the "I-State" logo was picked was so disappointing - it's obvious there was no brainstorming or imagination put forth at all.

Re: Close Up of the New Helmet

I'm still a proponent of the '76 unis. That said, I think winning will mostly shape peoples attitude toward the new logo. I'm sure that there were plenty of hackeye fans that hated hayden fry's chicken hawk logo until they went to that first Rose Bowl. Now I see that stupid thing all over the place up here (my favorites are the misshapen homemade ones that rednecks put on their vans and mailboxes).

I think that if Gene has the type of success I'm hoping for we're all going to become really fond of the new logo.

Also, there's somthing to be said for separating the mascot from the unis. It's worked pretty well over the years for Notre Dame, Nebraska, Miami, Penn State, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc.

Don't let the green grass fool you. Don't let it change your mind.
