The issue of closing the stadium to re-entry is a security issue. After the student at OU tried to bring a bomb into Memorial Stadium in 2005 (2005 University of Oklahoma bombing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) they wanted to stop all re-entry because it's harder for security to re-check every single person who wants to leave and come back while monitoring the rest of the stadium. They couldn't close the entire stadium initially because of the bathroom situation, since there simply weren't enough facilities to meet the demand. Now that the renovations are done, they're going ahead by closing to re-entry.

If there is no beer rule why haven't they done it yet. Think of all the money they could make off of beer sales.

Re: 2008 Re-entry to JT if you leave at halftime

So I just found an old ISU Daily article on the topic (not the most reliable source, but still). There's beer in the boxes because it's supposed to be a "perk" to leasing out the box. They don't sell in the plebeian areas because they never have sold at athletic events before.

And think of all the liability and insurance costs, extra security, etc.

What happens the first time someone falls over the balcony? Which beer that that person consumed caused them to fall -- the 14 they drank in the parking lot, or the 2 they bought in the stadium?

How do you police the student section and prevent the "legals" buying and handing off to the minors?

The people that really want it already have fakes...and the people that would be serving in the concession stands wouldn't have a clue as to how to tell if it's a fake or not.

Exactly. Obviously it generates more money, but when lawsuits come about because college kids start doing even more stupid things, not good for the university.

What happens if someone falls out of the pressbox drunk? What happens if they fall down the VIP Elevator shaft after too many sidecars? Does being wealthy mean you handle your booze better?

Re: 2008 Re-entry to JT if you leave at halftime

If they can pry apart those elevator doors, good for them.

By limiting the area of serving and the number of people served, you also decrease the number of potential mishaps. Besides, there is constant complaining about how the big-money lots are never full for tailgating, unlike the general public and low-money lots. If they aren't there to tailgate, I'm guessing they're also probably not elbow-deep into a case of beer by 8 a.m.

Of course. That's because beer is too pedestrian. They are knocking back single-malts at the 19th Hole at the TCI in Polk City.
