Delusional or not - I have been treated much better on my visits to Memorial Stadium than Kinnick. Just one guy's experience.

I for one just appreciate that your average Fusker knows about their own team, as opposed to a lot of Iowa fans who know less about their team than I do

Re: Register: Cornhuskers Seeing Red (Against ISU)
Never been to Lincoln for a game, but I can tell you that the fans that make their way over to Ames are some of the worst I have ever encountered. The EIU fans are no treat either, but I sat behind a few Hawk fans at the game last year and they were not only respectful, but great people to talk to. They were making fun of the idiot Hawk fans a few rows down that were making complete ***es of themselves.

The problem with Husker fans is that their team is so deeply tied to, not only their personal identity, but the identity of their entire state. They project any perceived slight of the team onto everything they hold dear and completely overreact. This superiority is so ingrained in them that even the idea that ISU might think they could win that game is like they're in an M. Night Shyamalan movie and everything they've ever known is wrong. There are plenty of good, down-to-earth fans but, from my experience, they are definitely among the closest any school comes to cult-like behavior.

Re: Register: Cornhuskers Seeing Red (Against ISU)
I have been to Memorial Stadium 3 times and Kinnick twice. Each time in Lincoln, other than the occasional good natured ribbing, I've never felt our safety to be in jeopardy.
At Kinnick? Can't say that.

Re: Register: Cornhuskers Seeing Red (Against ISU)
ketchupand mustard,
I would agree with your comments on attending games at NU & the EIU. I have no intentions of going to EIU again, but will go back to Lincoln.
As for NU, remember who Pelini hired as his new Offensive Coordinator (Barney Cotton). Rumor has it that he took his old play book with him.

They weren't even easily provoked by my sailor's string of obscenities on the way out of the stadium (a little out of control that day, I must admit...) I do have a picture of the scoreboard when we were leading 13-10 My fuzzy memory includes Stevie Hicks' mom stopping by our tailgate...

Re: Register: Cornhuskers Seeing Red (Against ISU)
That's a lot of smack-talk by us Cyclone fans considering our dubious history against Nebraska. I'm not saying I think the Huskers are going to be all that this year - far from it, and personally I do think we have a pretty good chance to pull a "stunner" in Ames this season, and I do think that this season could very well serve as a wake-up call for the "delusional" Husker fans. But as far as a lot of the posters go on that article, can we wait until we at least beat them later this year before we start running our mouths? It's not like the last 30 years, or even the last 10 years, has given us the opportunity to talk smack after losing three in a row to them, especially when they've owned us for that long. Stay classy, folks...

Husker football is about all that some of these people have. I cannot remember the exact number, but on gamedays when the Husker football team loses, domestic abuse goes up something like 70% in the state.

I was in the student section for that game and got plenty of hilarious ribbing. I think I scared a few people with what came out of my mouth after Nick Leaders dropped that INT though.... -
Re: Register: Cornhuskers Seeing Red (Against ISU)
In living among the Bugeaters for nearly a year now, I will say that I believe them to be mostly less hostile than the ugly birds of a feather flying in the east. However, my husker hate has gone from low to an all-time high this spring and summer. I completely understand that they are starving to return to the days of yesteryear, and I can appreciate that. Nonetheless, they have passed and lapped the car known as obnoxious with this upcoming season. They really believe that with TO in the office and Bo on the field that suddenly they are back to what they were. I'm not buying it. They quickly discount any objection, such as experience both on the sideline and on the field, and have a very unrealistic expectations. I would love nothing more than for them to experience a complete meltdown this fall, and it won't take as many losses as you might think.
