Early losses last season mean nothing, team was still learning the system and the squad that finished the season should have had no problem going 4-0 if we played our non-conference schedule over again in January.
The loss of Meyer shouldn't hurt too bad. As painful as it was watching him level off or even decline after his sophomore season, now is the good part, because we shouldn't lose much of anything with his replacement.
As previous posters have pointed out, we have done well against Baylor, especially compared to other Big 12 foes. I'm thinking if Chizik is instilling the mental toughness that we think he is, then we should be fine. Mac's teams had a tendency to play to the level of our competition and sometimes we would get in a jam with that and not be able to pull the game out. If we play to our potential and don't overlook teams, we should put Baylor in the W column. That is one of the key things that I'm hoping Chizik will get out of the program.
+1
That's the type of effort our team needs to give each and every week...especially on the defensive side of the ball. I certainly didn't expect anything of the sort following the previous week's debacle vs. Texas.
If only Meyer had not thrown an interception at the end of that OU game...
We brought the kids to that game thinking it was gonna be a blow-out....and boy was I wrong.
one of the more intense games I have attended. I turned to my wife at one point and said 'I cannot believe we are matching up with them physically...when was the last time that happened?!?'
Being someone who traveled to kNowleged land last year I am cautiously optimistic our road troubles are on the decline. We went into Lincoln and won every category on the stats table except for the important one.
IMO I think much of our problems on the road recently (IE last year) were not due to location but to struggling in general. I want to believe that Chizik's teams are going to have less of a drastic difference between road and home. There will always be the home field factors, but I don't see a road game on the schedule jumping out as an obvious or likely loss just because it's a road game.
Of course that's what I want to believe, I also want to believe we'll win the big 12 this year. :daydreaming:
Does anyone else think road issues will decline with Chizik or is that just me? Also, I'm not ragging on Dan and remember years when he had road success. Just saying I think Chizik will get us out of these recent issues.
My brother punked out and tailgated instead of going to the game. Razzed him quite a bit about it - I'd still be doing it if we had won.
I too was amazed we were physically whooping them - especially in the trenches in that first half. And Hamilton, man he was a beast across the middle on those quick shots.
However, keep in mind the number of times they had a receiver wide open down the field and he was overthrown. I vividly remember 3 times in the first half alone - that's 21 points right there.
Aug. 28th, so close - yet so far away...
I am pretty sure I didn't say that. They even projected us at 4-8 with one conference win. I think your reading comprehension needs work.
It is very possible for us to go 4-0 in non-conference and just as possible for us to go 2-2 (I believe that to be worst case). I will say if we start 4-0 there is no way we end up 4-8. We will be on too much of a roll.
However, if we start 2-2 or 3-1 with a disappointing loss to Iowa or UNLV then 4-8 is a possibility. Just as much as 6-6 or 7-5 would be. No one knows right now but to think I meant we'd lose all 8 conference games is just ridiculous.
I saw his post and wondered what the heck he was talking about.
Then I assumed he was just automatically marking Iowa down as a win (which is the non-conference)game I assume the article had us losing) as well as the other 3 non-conference games.
I agree with the overall predictions.
1) The South still has the edge on every stat except snowfall.
2) Mizzou will easily win the North; OU's lackluster big-stage performances (typically bowl games) will eventually bite them in the conference title game.
3) Behind Mizzou, the North is a crapshoot.
4) We are defintely a wild-card this year. We could finish anywhere from 2-6 in the North. Only time will tell...
I know its Baylor but that is a chance for us to reach out and get some more exposure to the Texas recruits. I think Gene will be ready for that game.
Now that I think of it, does anyone have a tape of that Oklahoma game? Wasn't it on FSN?
Revkah gave her ticket to that game to her dad. We had a great time, but man, did she miss out!!! I was reliving it with a friend at work today, and it would be really cool to watch it again.
