Suffered a neck injury in 2003 (his senior year). He was splitting time with Austin Flynn (then a freshman) and Cris Love. Last I knew, he was a car salesman (Kia?) somewhere in Des Moines.

He was a juco transfer, so wasn't at ISU very long. Still selling KIA's on Merle Hay

How I remember it he was a Juco transfer and hurt his neck in the last game of the season (kansas-may have even been the last play) and he did not return for his senior year due to the injury.
It was a very freak play.

Remember watching him get hurt. Man our QB's got murdered that year.
The common call from the press box was "Flynn on da keeper" which really translated into "Flynn runs in an attempt to save his life".

I think he threw a sweet bomb to Lane Danielsen in that game also. He actually looked to have some decent skill at the QB position. That year was the beginning of the end for McCarney. To be coming off the exposure of 2000 to 2002 and to put that football team on the field was horrible. So difficult to even watch.
