I don't have the in-close access that many of you have, but I've been an ISU and football fan for a very long time - and I like to believe I know it when I see it.
Our questions coming into the season seem to be focused on the D-Line and QB position. I was at the spring scrimmage and what I "saw" was two QB's who both can more than do the job for us and a very aggressive D-Line that played well.
Then I read what has happened with the strength and conditioning and the ten-fold gains in the numbers of players that can push extremely high weights. I can't help but have a ton of optimism and higher expectations than maybe I should.
And couple it all with Chizik - who from the instant he was hired and to this instant I have felt is the real deal.
I'm one of the guys on the poll the other day that voted for 6 - 9 wins. It's going to be a fun season. Thanks everybody for the more specific updates on players and progress. Get's me even more juiced.
If your not confident on your home field against SDSU, you need to get the hell out of the Big 12. Im sorry, but thats whack.
The team should be confident regardless of who they are playing. I don't care if it's SDSU or UT. That goes without saying. I'm psyched the guys are pumped and feel they can win everytime they suit up.
My comment only reflects that everyone was saying the same last year (including yourself 33). We ended up coming out and laying an egg at the start of the season.
This team does have alot of holes to fill. I believe this will be a good team by B12 play...I'm just not sure what we will see out of the gate in games 1-4.
I'm psyched, but the realist in me says until it is proven on the field, it's nothing more than hype.
I'll say this....47 days is gonna feel like 47 years. I can't remember a team I've looked forward to watching more than this years team.
Thanks to 33 and all the great info - past, present, and future! :notworthy:
last year it was hard to gauge how we would come out of the gate so to speak, mostly, the excitement came from the condition of our team, the way they packed on muscle and what not. Come time for Kent State, and the faults of a new system all fell into place. Sure we had a bunch more muscle on the team than the previous year, but early on, they just couldnt fire on all cylinders and work well together as a team. Reason to be more excited for this year is because the system is in place. We are bringing in new guys, sure. But i dont think we drop off in talent level ANYWHERE except maybe Alvin Bowen. I compare what i saw and knew last year at this time to now, and the guys are far far ahead in just about every aspect. Its actually to a point where the freshmen cant keep up in the weight room early on because at the moment, some of them are boys amongst men. Men chiseled by Coach Chizik and his partners. Its different, and its good. thats all I need to say.
i suspect we will win every game that the majority of points our on our side of the scoreboard, and lose thy others. ive never been one to throw record predictions out there. You just never really know whats going to happen, look at Kansas. we could be playing in a january bowl game, or calling for someones head next winter, you just never know. Hope is all ive got, and when I see something good happen, i feel its necessary to relay it to the cyclone nation so that they can feed off of the excitement and bring enthusiasum into Jack Trice Stadium in 47 days.
33...May you live long and prosper.
Does this mean we will be better then "dead even" with some of the teams that we beat on the scoreboard last year, 33???
Seriously though, love your report of the progress and can't wait for August 28th....
I felt we were short of playmakers last season on a consistant basis. Big play type of guys..... 33, who do you see as players who can step it up and be those type of players this year?
This year, i really see A Rob, and JJ Bass being a nice impact set for us. JJ Bass especially.. I wish he was healthy last year. The guy is good, and Bo Williams agrees, Bo tells me JJ is the best back that will be eligible this season, and I agree. Also i hope JJ makes it through this summer and can re join. I know he is working hard and everything looks like a go.
Also Marquis Hamilton and RJ Sumrall have a Austin Flynn type ability and will be key 3rd down guys, i really like what i see from Quis, and i know what RJ can do.
Phillip Bates will also be a playmaker, its in his bones. and i think it will be from under center. Either way, he will be making an impact this year.
Defense, Allen Bell and James Smith will be solid in our secondary
Chris Brown if he fully recovers, ( looks good ) can be huge for us.
Fred Garrin is showing some shine
Michael Tate can be a beast for us as well
Bibbs i can also see making some BIG plays for us, he is very versatile.
and back to offense, as i mentioned before . Kelechi Osemele.. he is good. very good.
Baysinger will also help us out.
time will tell
