    Re: Criticism of I-State logo

The guy at the athletic department that designed the new logo told me that people are in a panic the Cy is going away. He said Cy isn't going away. In fact, he said the new logo allows Cy to "be Free" as no lettering will be used across him anymore (as someone else mentioned earlier). Cy can used as JUST Cy now.

It also appears that the logo will incorporate just the cardinal and gold colors now, which I personally like much more.
I've noticed this. Remember, JP always said that the Primary mark would be I-State, but that we weren't getting rid of cy. I think this is what he meant. The revised fighting cy is better than the old one, it was always my criticism that the old logo shouldn't have words across it. I feel the same way about the cardinal "I" on our helmets... The "state" makes everything way overcomplicated...

I checked out all of the D1 "State" school helmets on the Helmet Project, and ISU would be the only such school other than Kent State to do this. Not saying there is anything wrong with it, but it might not be received as well as you think.

Plus, there are several other prominent schools who have logos that are at least as "wordy" as the I-State logo. Florida, Ole Miss, Miss State, Illinois and Boise St. are just a few. I think the old ISU logo was 10X as busy as the new I-State logo... so we're going in the right direction.

    Re: Criticism of I-State logo

IMHO I think the new logo is great and this summer decided my beer pong table needed refurbished. Thus I convinced a design student to free hand the new I-State logo onto the middle of my table which I painted with the chiseled color affect and put the darkest blue paint I could buy at walmart as the background of the table.

Usually when I get a crazy idea to make things like this I always have a picture in my head of something professional and it typically looks like junk but I have to admit I'm very impressed with the way it turned out and the new I-State logo makes it look awesome.

They're not? I thought we were using white helmets this year... Huh. I don't pay close enough attention.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Unless I misread it, the article looks to be from last September, when the helmets were still supposed to be white.

No matter anyone thinks of our new logo, it is still miles better than what used to be on the helmet.

Really cool hardcore band from the '80's. Did a dope cover of Hocus Pocus. Had a bad*** logo too, a V with an M-16 on it.

Well we could put EF-5 on our helmet in the back.

The writers may want Ames on our helmets as they always confuse us with EIU.

I like the new logo. I like it a lot. Will I still like it when the newness ears off, I don't know. I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

For some reason, that makes me think of the very first logo for the Sioux City Explorers baseball team. It was a pioneer-looking type guy walking away with his back turned to you. In one hand, he held a baseball bat over his shoulder. In the other hand, he was carrying a dead animal by the tail. Now THAT was a logo! It looked like he had just beaten the animal to death with the bat.

The public response to the logo was so negative that it was abandoned before the team ever played a game. Man, I wish I could find that image somewhere...

    It's an interesting read.

I think playing off of the tornadic aspects of the Cyclone would have been really good.

In fact, the logo that Jeremy has here, or something like it, would have been a good route to go.
