Updates from todays practice.....Carlson had a nice play
The grass always looks greener, on the other side of the fence, but the dog over there might be meaner, on the other side of the fence… Stay in your own yard, play in your own yard! -

Looks pretty good. Glad to see the freshman receivers already making impressions.
I won't put anything into the place kicking until we play a game in JTS with fans. Kicking in practice is one thing, kicking in a stadium full of screaming fans is quite another.

Definitely looks like Sed Johnson won't be redshirting and possibly Leonard Johnson (saw he was involved in some first & 10 action). Unless the redshirts run alot with the 1st & 2nd teams...

Unless the redshirts run alot with the 1st & 2nd teams... I would be shocked if those two don't play this year. I know 33 has tempered expectations somewhat on SJ, but I still think the staff will want his abilities available, especially as the year goes on. I think LJ (and a few others) will be at minimum contributors on special teams this year.

I don't know about the you, but just reading the stats it seems like Bates sounds impressive and perhaps getting an early lead on the starting job. Am I reading too much into it?
- QB Phillip Bates completed six passes for 77 yards, including a long of 35 yards to R.J. Sumrall on a flag route. Bates also connected with WR Euseph Messiah (5 yards), RB Jason Harris (7 yards), WR Alex Sandvig (13 yards), WR Justin Lillie (11 yards) and Carlson (6 yards).
- QB Phillip Bates completed passes of 11 yards (Sumrall), 6 yards (WR Marquis Hamilton), 9 yards (TE Collin Franklin), 14 yards (WR Jake Williams) and 6 yards (Sedrick Johnson). Bates also carried the ball three times for 20 yards. Well considering Arnaud gained 70 yards on one pass, I;d say you're reading too far into this one right now. Time will tell.

Sounds to me like Carlson did most of the work, not to take away anything from Arnaud. and Jason Carlson (70 yards). Carlson took a 10-yard out pattern, turned the corner and out-ran the defense for the score. Kind of making my point that it's tough to say who has done what, us not vbeing there and all... Cyclone

But just reading the stats and not inferring what you want then by logic you would have to say then Arnaud has the edge, given from what they released he threw for more yards and scores than Bates.
I want the best guy on the field when we play against SDSU. Don't go getting all on me.

Re: Updates from todays practice.....Carlson had a nice play
Well, based on reading about the first day of practice on the interwebs, I think we have a really good chance at the national championship, this year. -
Re: Updates from todays practice.....Carlson had a nice play
I don't get that idea at all. In fact, I was thinking the opposite might as well be true. Arnaud completed longer passes. I think Arnaud might be slightly better at the long throws, whereas Bates obviously has the edge in running the ball. Anyway.... it is VERY early.... I wouldn't read anything into anything yet.
As for Sedrick Johnson and Carlson.... Carlson will definately play a lot for us since he's a JUCO and all. Plus we need his great speed! SJ will also play this year IMO. He will immediately play the role of Todd Blythe for us IMO. He is 6'4" tall and can jump like the basketball player he is. We will stretch the field with his "jump ball" ability. We tend to dink and dunk it down the field a lot, but SJ will give us that deep threat to keep defenses honest. I see him as a Randy Moss type player. Obviously not as good as Moss quite yet.... but the same kind of player.
