Have we faced a more important year for football?
A good year this year (7+ wins) catapults our program forward. A bad year (4 or less wins) could really set us back. I am extremely excited and somewhat optimistic, but I am nervous about how important this year is.

I really like the topic you brought forth here.. especially the title of the thread.
It is one of the more important seasons ISU has seen in a long, long time.

I think 2004 and 2005 could have been such years, but you are right, this year is important.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
I dont think 4 wins would set this program back at all. There is a goal to win games but it will will take a few more years to get this program on solid feet. I think everyone in the program, the athletic dept, and the smart fans understand this. We have to give it time. KU and Mizzu did and it paid off last year, all they have to do is follow it up now.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
Great topic!
We are in the second year of Gene Chizik, we can start to see the direction of the program. There may not be lots of wins (I think we will get about 5-7 this season by my early estimation) but there could be another 3 win season coming with so many ????'s.
We will see the attitude of this team from the first game this season, not guys learning a whole new system as we saw last year. I am cautiously optimistic about this season, but very optimistic about the future of this program.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
We will win the first 2 games pretty easily, I think. It isn't a matter of unreal optimism, but a year of GC under our belt.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
I'd say there is little pressure on this team, other than what they place on themselves. No media attention, etc. for them to face yet. I think we'll start facing it as the conference season starts.....ya know, when we're 4-0.

This year I only expect 4 wins I hope for 5 or 6 and I pray for 7+

I hope you are right. I just don't know how patient our 'new' fans will be. Jamie has made some pretty big promises as well as asked for some pretty big commitments (most very warranted) from fans. If we only see 4 wins this year, I'm afraid people will start to wonder.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
This season isn't anywhere close to as important as 2009 will be.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
I think next year will be more important than this year. We're still in a bit of rebuilding mode this year, but next year is when things should start to really fall into place.

Your making me nervous, can't wait though.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
I see next year as the most important maybe in the history of the program. I like to think of myself as an optimist but I think 5 wins this year would be a pretty major step forward. Next year is the year where the pressure to really win some ball games and get us back to a good bowl will be there.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
This year is important recruiting wise, and maybe to keep a few hangers on of season ticket holders. But i fully expect 6 wins at least.

Re: Have we faced a more important year for football?
I also like the topic...
I feel we have faced a couple of important seasons, I feel we needed to build off the bowls Mac took us to but that didn't happen and this is a totally different situation but it seems to have a sense importance as well as a sense of urgency...
