He will announce it during the Kansas game....to 'Sweet Caroline' while we are up 21 to 7.

my question is...how long before FPM takes this off of their spreadsheet? If I remember correctly, this was a problem when this was brought out a few months ago per se...that they deleted the spreadsheet or the line of interest from that spreadsheet.

Re: The Jack
Looks like according to the Register archives (purchasing old news? Seriously) Pollard did his pitch to continue investigating the architecture of Phase II back in April.
So...guess we're still waiting on that gift...

Brick (both horizontal and/or vertical) is very expensive and usually is the first item to be deleted if you do not have enough funding. Curb and gutter goes next, then crushed rock replaces asphalt. You get the picture.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: The Jack
Fingers crossed that the funding comes through soon, because it looks like if it does we are lookin at a new and improved Jack for next season.

Re: The Jack
Just doing some rudimentary investigation, I found a nice Holland paver (8"x4"x1.75") for $0.74 at Lowe's. It takes 4.5 units to cover a square foot, for a total of $3.33 per sq. ft. Now, obviously a distributor would get you a much better deal, but let's use those numbers for argument's sake.
How does that compare to the cost of asphalt at roughly the same thickness? Is it outrageously more? I have no idea, so I would appreciate any input.

Re: The Jack
I remember in Washington state, I think it cost us around $100 for 3 cubic yards of asphalt, but that was at a discounted price because they were paving the street in front of our house.

We'll use that and the $100 asphalt that Jartec also quotes. For guesstimation and comparison's sake, lets say the concourse is 350 ft long by 50 ft wide. That puts us at a total of 17500 sq. ft. Using brick at $3.33/sq. ft equates to $58275. We'll say the contractor gets a discount and round down to and even $50000. For the same thickness asphalt (I'm assuming anything below the 1st 1.75 inches is the same, I doubt it is, but this is rough work), we're looking at just over 2500 cu. ft. (about 95 cu. yd.), so about $3150. Wow, that is pretty significant. (I had no clue when I started working this out)

(I had no clue when I started working this out) That, and add in all the labor it takes to lay all those bricks down compared to say a 5 man crew running an asphalt paver that can do quite a few road miles per day...way cheaper that way.

Since I am a student and can't afford to donate large sums of money, yet, I would donate my labor. I will happily lay brick for Jack Trice Stadium to make it look better, for... hmmm.. $5/hour? I'm sure I can find some people to help also. When Prepared, Fear No One. -

I'll do it on the weekends for free beer and a parking pass to BBALL games, those winter nights are freezing!!!
