Re: What it will take to beat Iowa this year
I'm not going to repeat everything that has already been posted, but beating Iowa at home is something we need to continue doing.
It is great fun as a Cyclone to see the loyal Iowa fans get up & leave the stadium in the early part of the fourth quarter. And it is even more fun rushing on to their field and getting a group picture with the scoreboard in the background for my ISU scrapbook! -
Re: What it will take to beat Iowa this year
Spread them out running 4 and 5 wide sets Iowa won't get out of a 4-3 defense they haven't since KF has been there. Isolate ISU's WR on their slower LB's and burn them all day long ala Bates over Klinkenborg last year. Mac did it the second half of 2002 and in 2005. Iowa just won't adjust they never have that's why they have problems with Purdue all the time and lately with Indiana and Northwestern.

We could easily make Jake look like the '05 Drew Tate this year if we pressure him properly.

Personally, methinks if the team puts forward the kind of effort they did last year, with the lone exception of putting the ball in the endzone every so often when we find ourselves in the red zone, not only should we win, but it could get ugly.

Re: What it will take to beat Iowa this year
They might be the best in the Ferentz era but they really haven't proven anything to this point.

You have Moeaki. Then who? I find it hard to believe Brodell can come back at the same level, and I am a fan of his.

Based on potential? Maybe.
But potential is a short way of saying "you haven't done anything yet" - which describes that group perfectly.

Re: What it will take to beat Iowa this year
The receivers may be better, but if the running game is nonexistent, and Christensen doesn't improve, it won't matter much.

SCORE SOME FREAKING POINTS! I never understand why we can't score more than the 14-17 points every year in this series(with the exception of 2002).

Did you expect him to publicly announce that he isn't 100%??? That will come when the losses do, in the form of excuses.

Because, in this series, at least for the last 6 years, what hasn't been lacking is defensive ability for both teams. What has been downright pathetic has been offenses/offensive schemes. That's why you haven't seen more than 17 points scored over the last several years.
This year's game could be yet another replay. Iowa's offense as a whole just doesn't appear to be that good, while it's a big question as to whether Iowa State has much outside of a running game - one that traditionally gets shut down in this game. As far as defense, the two teams seem to have opposite problems. Iowa's front 4 appears to be there, but the back 7 is very questionable. Iowa State's front 7 is a cause for concern, but the secondary is solid.
I kind of expect this game to be yet another repeat of the last several years.
