This whole debate is a matter of personal preference.
It reminds me of seating at a hockey game: The most expensive seats are right on the glass. Sitting from that vantage point, you can't see everything, but for NHL teams those are some really tough and expensive tickets to get.
The reason being is that some want to "feel" the action and others just want to see it. I think the same goes for football. Some want to see all the plays develop and have no obstructed view (myself included... you'll notice press boxes in stadiums are usually somewhat high up)... Others want to feel the action more and feel like they are in the game somewhat.
Coming from someone who is only going to a limited number of games this year compared to the 6 years of student season tickets: you are lucky to have season tickets and have a blast! You never know what may come up in your life when you won't be able to go to games anymore!

What is it like sitting in front of the faculty? Are they lame?

I agree that it is personal preference. Some people prefer high seats with better views, although farther from the field and with less feel for crowd noise. Some like being the 1st row with a less than ideal view, but they are close to the action and are in the best spot to hear the entire crowd (experiencing more of what the players experience).
My preference is to be in the lower level in about the 10-15th row. Low enough to be close to the action and hear the roar of the crowd (especially behind you), yet high enough to still get a decent view on what is happening on the field. Middle of the field is best.

I don’t care… I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it… let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Thanks to construction, we're in 5:11 this year. In the past, we've been top of lower level, under the balcony. My dad loved those seats because the upper deck blocked the elements (sun, rain, etc.), the view was decent (even in sec 3), and the walk to the concourse was minimal. We ended up taking the row 11, mainly because when I gave Dad the options, that's what he preferred (over balcony, probably to minimize steps.) The jury will be out until after the season, but I anticipate trying to move up a few rows (20s) and over a section or two (yes, Jaime, more $$$... LOL)

Umm...I'm sure she enjoys the onfield/court action, too. | | |

Only a handful of us ever stood up (or cheered at all) and the people in the section weren't very friendly. It was overall a bad experience in an aweful year (2003) for ISU football.
Let me tell you something about the lower level v. upper level debate. When you're sitting midway up the lower level at the 20 yard line and Seneca's "The Run" happens right in front of you, it's something you'll never forget. I don't know if it would have been quite the same in the upper deck.
I haven't seen an east side v. west side discussion. I prefer the west side because the sun is never in your face...

The main reason I don't like the west side: Security.
I get told to sit down by security multiple times a game on the west side. It has never happened on the east side. I won't be going back. East side!
