holy crap....are people testy.
In all threads.
Cannot wait for the first game to get here.
I agree it may be too soon to say how much we gain or lose by playing on Thursday instead of the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. However, looking at the recent Saturday games, the UNI games in 03 and 04 weren't all that well attended. When you consider how well ISU UNI games have drawn more recently, those crowds don't look so solid. Remember, in the last few years we have done better for UNI then nebby or eiu.
I just wish the real reason for the Thurs game would be given. Students going home and Families being out of town is completely bogus in my opinion.
If a student goes home after arriving 5 days before, there is a 90% chance they do not have season tickets, or are even aware ISU has a football team.
Also, for my family (and I know of a few others) the perfect weekend is a Saturday game. Get everyone together for the tailgate/game and have a great time, then enjoy Sunday together, then have Monday to get back to the usual. If we are trying to accomodate to families, wouldn't a Saturday game makes more sense? Especially on Labor Day weekend? I think it does. (Although my sister who is getting out of school early on Thurs probably disagrees with me)
The Thurs game only benefits one thing, $. And at this point, we as fans are all held hostage to the size of our budget. I'm not complaining about the Thurs game. I'll speed to Ames after leaving work, then speed home to get some sleep prior to work the following day. And I'll enjoy every minute of it because it will be Cyclone football. But if anyone thinks that the Thursday game is better for any group of fans (young, old, in-state, out of state, etc...) they are mistaken.
Exactly. I don't understand folks saying in one thread that they're predicting 7 wins and a bowl game, and they're excited about this season, then in this thread they're whining about a Thursday night game.
Where there's a will to get to the game, there's a way to get to the game.
I got an idea.....
Fire Jamie an email and tell him about needing 2 days off from Ankeny, or how this hurts your wallet.
No need to attack one another. It gets old, and people have been like this for a few weeks now.
The SEC is a different type of fan base..We aren't packing 80-100k in the Jack either...
I think that once the fanbase is strong, it won't matter if the game is on a holiday weekend or not, and they can afford to play on Saturday.
I think our fanbase is a majority of casual fans, who will happily miss a game for vacation plans, and will stop attending games when the team isn't doing well, which is why we do this on Thursday.
