Re: New Commit
Awesome! Kid has a ton of upside. Psyched about this one..he is a heck of an athlete.

Re: New Commit
Chizik is certainly opening the Iowa recruiting pipelines. Dubuque, Marion etc were Hok country. That is changing.

Re: New Commit
ferentz can't get any early releases for his potential recruits from his prison farm club in fort madison.hence no early iowa recruits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Commit
I know Iowa fans were really wanting the coaches to offer him. People that have seen him play are very impressed and say he is quite the athlete

Re: New Commit
chizik does a good job in fl, and iowa i guess, but he needs to get going in chicago. there is so much untapped talent there that we dont seem to touch.

Illinois is kind of a black hole. Kids won't be on TV much there, it is a huge Big10 market. We don't play road games there really. Would have to compete with ND, Illinois, Iowa (for the convicts), and Purdue. Better off sticking to the prairie states, as well as TX and FLA. Chicago has a lot of talent, I just don't see much of it coming to ISU for football. I also don't think we should use our limited resources to chase after the talent there.

Yes, but as the huge number of Chicago area ISU enrollees and grads would tell you, TV isn't everything. Unlike Texas and Florida, Ames is within easy driving distance for the families of athletes who would be playing for our Cyclones. TV is only a big factor when you want your parents to be able to see you when they can't drive every weekend.

I think that is about normal for ISU this time of the year. Some years Mac had more commitments at this time and some years he had less. As I recall, we were way behind in recruiting going into his last season (2006).
What is scary is that normally Mizzou and KU only have around 6 commits each this time of year, but this year they each have 14! Must be a reflection of the season they had last year. Still they had their breakout season with a bunch of 2-star and 3-star recruits so ISU can do it too. I looked up K-State and they have only 7 commits right now... so I think we're doing okay.

I wouldn't call that "scary". The more slots they have filled up, the more quality players will be looking for a home once signing days rolls around. Texas and A&M are loading up fast, too. And they're hardly the only ones.

The kind of guys we could get out of the Chicago area are those who weren't offered by their first choices, and either are under the radar or not as good. If we could get a pipeline, it would be great, but it is hard. Didn't Reggie Hayward come out of the south suburbs?

Re: New Commit
IMO Illinois is way overrated for football talent. Look at all the big star players Iowa has gotten out of that state. All have been busts so far.
Basketball is a different story

Basketball is a different story I would totally agree. HS football is nowhere near as big here as it is in many other places.
