Get tickets to SDSU game for $10
Just saw this in the Eye on Cy email:
Quote:
Iowa State’s free Cyclone Fanfest – including skill stations for every ISU team and the chance to visit with athletes, coaches and Cy – takes place this Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Bergstrom Athletic Building. New to the festivities this year are an equipment sale of Cyclone gear and the chance to tour some of the newly renovated areas of Jack Trice Stadium. Fanfest attendees may also purchase a single-game $10 ticket for the South Dakota State game at the Athletics Ticket Office.
Just thought I would pass it along to anyone wanting more tickets.

Gonna be sad attendance at this game. Tickets sold will be at least 5k higher than butts in seats IMO.

That's what I was thinking as well. I really hope more people show up.

It works out great for me this year. But I hate the Thursday night games before the Labor Day weekend. Jamie has to figure out that this definitely kills season ticket sales. Especially with so many cheap tickets readily available.

Games on Labor Day would be worse. And would you really rather pass on a bye week--especially before Kansas?
I think the problem has more to do with the...less than scintillating opponent.

That and our 5 combined wins in the last 2 seasons including an embarassing 23-14 loss to Kent State in last year's opener doesn't help matters either. If people were as excited about this team as some here seem to be this would be a well-attended game regardless of the opponent.

I've never understood this...wouldn't you love to drink a few beers and go in and watch our Cyclones beat the hell out of somebody? I'd much rather watch us kill some no-name than get killed by Texas. Maybe thats just me.

As always the announced is higher than the actual. I feel like there is going to be a large crowd, just like last year. I am not worried one bit. I can count 12 family/friends that are going that rarely/never go. The reason is because its on Thursday and I am guessing I am not the only one experiencing this.

Psst...we haven't beaten the hell out of anyone for a bit now...including those no-name teams.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular before somebody thinks I am taking a personal shot at them. lots of schools have less than stellar first opponents and not many of division 1 schools have trouble getting people to a game on labor day weekend. Not many schools are choosing to have thursday night games unless they are televised. Therefore, I surmise this is mainly a factor for Iowa State and a number of lame fans we have. I mean really, buck up and go to the game. If it is labor day weekend so what. you either are a football fan or you aren't. Why do we have to make it harder than the other 109+ schools out there.

Like 99% of our problems, winning consistently will fix this as well.
Re: Get tickets to SDSU game for $10
I passed on the word about this deal and just got three more people going to the game.

If you're that worried about it, do what Me State just did...

Re: Get tickets to SDSU game for $10
This has actually been a contributing factor in my decision to not get season tickets this year. Granted, I'm in the minority living in Illinois and the cost of travel to the games, the 6 hours of driving and the other family obligations were definitely more of a factor, but, having this game on a Thursday, with kids in school, just makes it impossible. I can't take my kids out of school for 2 days. Had this game been on Saturday, it would have been the perfect weekend to make the trip and I'd have been there. I would think that anyone traveling from anywhere other than Ames and having a family would make the logistics of the night very awkward. I understand you want to have the game before everyone leaves for the weekend, but, I'd really like to see what the difference would be between a Saturday and a Thursday game. Personally, I can't think of a better way to spend the Saturday of Labor Day weekend than sipping down a few cold ones with friends outside of The Jack, eagerly awaiting Kickoff to the 2008 season.
Oh well, LIke I said, I know I'm in the minority on this. It just seemed, since I'd only be able to make it to 5 games at the most, and with a kid usually getting sick and missing another game, it would be easier to just go the single game route. I am glad the Applebees pack came up though. That was a nice way to get 3 games.
I do want everyone to know though, my lack of season tickets is in no way meant as a protest. It merely has just become financially and timewise something I can't do. I still donate to the Cyclone club and hopefully things will open up for me soon to get back for every game.
Re: Get tickets to SDSU game for $10
The best thing about a Thursday night opener is the two extra days between game 1 and game 2 to correct problems that are experienced on the field in a real game. I do not know the rules of practice and how many practices are allowed between games, but the extra days gives the coaches more time to break down film. Perhaps the coaches can even travel to the next opponents game on Saturday to do some in-person scouting. I do not know if they do that, but I do beleive the extra two days can't hurt.
