Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
That would be awesome! Home field advantage would be up for grabs so I think LOTS of fans would make the trek to Newton.

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
While I don't think its feasible at the Speedway, I think its an excellent idea. It would be a great way to get us some more national pub!
We could also do a few things with $20 million. I'd give up homefield for cash like that!

We would only do this every other year instead of playing at kinnick

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
Have any of you guys ever been to a race track. Even the tiny ones, 7/8 of a mile, are huge. It would be like watching an ISU game from Highway 30. Honestly, to utilize all of the seating, it wouldn't be worth going to watch the game. I go up to the Milwaukee Mile a lot, that used to be a really "Too close for comfort" track before they redid the stands. Even there you wouldn't be able to see anytong going on.

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
Would I have to wear a racing hat, drink Busch Light, and drive my muddy pickup to the game? Oh wait thats the state fair...err the races. Both!

If you think about it, you can fit a 400m track (running) around a football field. Take that multiplied by 4 (roughly) and you have the Iowa Speedway. You could squeeze the entire stadium, stands and all, Hilton, and most of the tailgating lots inside of that track.

Just because I have a place where I could watch it for free....

The only thing I'd be for is a "Big 4" basketball tourney at Wells Fargo Arena every year with ISU, Iowa, UNI, and Drake playing a round robin. That would be sold out easily and create a great atmosphere. Pollard has even gone on record saying he supports the idea if they other schools would come on board with it. That might be an interesting December tourny. If attendance suffers for those non-conference games anyway, it might not hurt.
Or we could keep the round-robin going as it is, and schedule more interesting non-conference opponents.

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
A true round-robin wouldn't work. Drake and UNI already play each other twice in conference. Iowa/ISU needs to stay on a home-and-home basis, since neither school would likely be willing to give up that home date.
However, something like this, perhaps?
Saturday
11:30 - Iowa vs. Drake (WBB)
2:00 - ISU vs. UNI (WBB)
5:00 - Iowa vs. Drake (MBB)
7:30 - ISU vs. UNI (MBB)
Sunday
11:30 - ISU vs. Drake (WBB)
2:00 - Iowa vs. UNI (WBB)
5:00 - ISU vs. Drake (MBB)
7:30 - Iowa vs. UNI (MBB)

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
Don't worry the infield is full of garages and a road course. It doesn't work for a football field. No more hating Newton and especially Busch Light.

Re: Out There Iowa v. ISU Idea
why on this green earth would one want to spend a college football Saturday away from a Big 12/Big10 university town. Arguments and aside but Somthing tells me that the reastaraunt/Bar Scene in Ames and Iowa City are better than going to Perkins in the dying town of Newton. THink about the thousands upon thousands of COllege kids who would be driving back to their respective schools to get to the bars after the game. I-80 would be a drunkfest.
One of the things that the college agers like to do is go across state and hang out in Ames or I.C. for the weekend of the game.
Having a hillbilly event in a cornfield next to an airport isn't exactly my picture of a college football atmosphere.
College footbal is ABOVE car racing as far as I am conerned.

Or what would be fun it play at Wells Fargo in a arena style college football game. Think that that would be sweet
