If we play 2 QB's all season long, than there is no way that Bates lines up anywhere besides QB.

I don't think they'll do that a lot, maybe an occasional "exotic" play, but they just can't afford to get Bates hurt when he's not playing QB.

This could be an interesting season, but who on here would be happy if said season went, say, 1-11 because an inexperienced Jerome Tiller were suddenly forced into starting at quarterback--and then he got hurt?

Not that I don't think he'll one day be a good quarterback, but he can hardly have a great deal of mastery of the playbook.

However, the men behind them will also be forceful and will probably steal some hearts throughout the season.
I have to admit that right now, I'm more concerned about the guys creating holes and pass blocking for this entire group.

Bass, ARob, Austen AND Phillip can all go out and make plays, as far as I'm concerned.

We will need them all, and I am psyched to hear there is such competition for so many offensive positions, including QB, RB, OL, and even WR. Competition is a VERY good thing. Not only because we can be a little more confident if someone goes down (knock on wood), but because its all the more motivation during practice.

Arnaud/Bates performing equally (and by most accounts very well), A-Rob solidifying the starting position against very good competition, freshman stepping up, the line coming together... very good stuff.

I don't think that A Rob has "solidified" the starting position, he just said he'd be starting the opening game. Which could have as much to do with J.J.'s suspension and missing so much of two-a-days. Somehow I don't think J.J. would be "rewarded" with starting after that even if he were the second coming of AP.

They still both look damn good.

You're right about that. However, if A-Rob wasn't there, I'm not so sure that Scales would be starting ahead of JJ. Maybe he would, but we'll never know.

In any case, I think and hope that all of those guys will make major contributions this year - and from all reports it sounds like they're going to.

Alright, I'll admit it...I'm getting pumped for next week. Now would someone remind me to go to the ticket office tomorrow during lunch to get my tickets...I keep forgetting. I only wish I could take next Thursday off in order to start tailgating at 9:30 am again.

While I think they both are good players, I will hold off on calling them damn good. Neither have rushed for over 500 yds in their career and both are under the 4 yards per carry mark.

I was referring to the photos, not established performance.

I will guarantee you that Chizik is not approaching the season living in fear as you appear to be.

Chizik is going to put the best players on the field that give us the best chance to win each and every play...period. Bates is going to be on the field a lot...mark my words.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

That's not what you said before. You said he will split time at QB and play WR. That is not true. If he plays QB than he won't play another position. Not a chance. Personally I think even if he play a lot of minutes at QB, he still does not move. Not unless Tiller is all world and the coaches feel good about putting him in if Arnaud gets hurt

Brett Meyer played 4 years with no protection without getting hurt. I don't think Bates would be a starting receiver anyway so why not let him play both positions with limited exposure? If we somehow lose Meyer and Bates, then Tiller fills in. This maximizes our talent on the field and keeps the players happy.
