Re: First play of the game?
The last thing you want to start the season off is with turnover with a young QB. Run, Run, 1st Down, then run run.....TD
Also with this being a D1-AA team, i think he is going to want to lean on that big O-line and wear SDSU down.

Re: First play of the game?
I voted run. It seems like that would be something just to test out the defense.
I agree with whoever it was that said the first 10-15 plays would be scripted. That seems to be the case most of the time for teams and I know even in high school our coach had the first 10 or so plays scripted.

Re: First play of the game?
I absolutely think that it will be a run, looking to establish that physical presence (or maybe dominance, we hope) over SDSU.
Set the tone early, you can control the game late.

It would make me the test model for the CPR recertification I have that next morning. (One extra dummy, I guess)

I think we run it, run it again, and then run it some more. If Chizik is confident about this game (I hope he is), he isn't going to open up the playbook for the first game. He is going to ease the new guys in with straightforward calls.

Re: First play of the game?
Great timing, I was thinking about this last night. My guy says run to get things started. In most years, I would agree with many of the above posters and say we'd keep a tight playbook and simply try to dominate with the running game. But this year, there are so many new people and only two weeks before the competition steps up. I think he'll open the playbook and pass more over the course of the game than we might expect.

Re: First play of the game?
SDSU halfback pass from Kyle Minette to JaRon Harris for a quick six!
Don't worry ISU, I also see you returning the kickoff to tie it up.
If that comes through, I am on the first plane to Vegas to my house on 0 in roulette!
Can't wait for the game! Good luck to both!

Although I like your thought process, I don't generally consider that being pared together well as I don't consider a 35-yard kickoff return (one that puts us at our 35 yardline to complete a 65-yard touchdown pass) to be a long kickoff return. It's a SOLID kickoff return, but IMO "long" doesn't start until you cross the 50. But I digress - I still like your thought process Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish.
