Sorry, if this has already been mentioned. Didn't have time to read all of both threads. I've gone to the NASCAR races there for the past 2 years and am going this year. The Nationwide race is on Saturday so that kinda stinks they overlapped the 2 events but obviously ISU football wins out on that one.
KC is going to be crowded that weekend...ISU/KSU game on Saturday, 90,000 for the NASCAR races on Saturday/Sunday, and then a packed house for the Chiefs game on Sunday.

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
As someone who can no longer make it to Jack Trice on a regular basis, I mind a lot less than those of you with season tickets...
I also think it'd be a really fun atmosphere and something a bit different than what I've been to so far... so I would make the trip from Maryland for it Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

We had a group go to the ERC in '02, and the biggest reason is that it was vs. FSU. It was a chance to see what ISU (and Seneca) could do against a name team from a BCS conference. I mean, had it been ISU v. Tulsa.......meh.
Like a lot of others, I'm pretty blah on the idea of playing a conference foe at a neutral site. But who knows, maybe we're trying to start the makings of an actual conference rivalry. I don't think we can really say that we have a rivalry with anyone in the conference. I mean, we don't like NU or MU very much, but I would hardly call them "rivals".

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
This is an unbelievable opportunity for ISU. We need not to get so hung up on losing a home game b/c we also lose a road game, and as far as "neutral" sites go KC is Cyclone country through and through.
Also there will be some BIG benefits announced at the presser today that make this deal to good to be true: (1) each team guaranteed over $1 million (2) game will be guaranteed national television coverage (3) it is currently scheduled as a 2 year deal, but negotiations have already begun to make it an annual event a la TX vs OU in Dallas.

Virtually all positives out of these games, outweigh the negatives by a long shot.

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
If this becomes an annual deal we will only have 5 Home Games in 2011. That means a pretty steep increase in per game season tickets as they will likely rise again in 2010 with the 7 Home games.

Oh, snap. My new job is 45 minutes from Arrowhead.
That will work just fine....

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
Another thread posted 1.8 mill to each team for 2 years. I guess you gotta take the money. JTS can bring in that kind of money on one home game but its gotta be sold out...so I you gotta go with the sure thing.

I don't think we can really say that we have a rivalry with anyone in the conference. I mean, we don't like NU or MU very much, but I would hardly call them "rivals". I think this is a factor that has been overlooked to this point. We get knocked by a lot of other Big 12 schools for not having the success or the tradition or the budget or the facilities of the other schools, and we are working hard to change that. Another argument made against us being in the conference is the lack of a real rival. NU has had OU and more recently CU, and mizzou and KU have it as well. It seems to me that KSU is the logical match for us.
They had a nice run for a while, but they really aren't that far from us in terms of tradition, and they are really the only other team in the north without a true rival. I always figured KU and KSU was probably a pretty big rivalry, but living down here it seems like it is all about KU and Mizzou and KState is basically the third wheel that gets lost in the mix. I think the demographics of the schools are probably pretty similar, and I probably prefer their fans to most of our other B12 north opponents. It just makes sense to try and fire something up there, especially now when it seems that the programs are at a pretty similar level (though certainly not the level fans on either side would like to see).

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
This poll is a little too early. We don't know when and how right now. I'm strongly for it if the game were to get moved to Thanksgiving Day weekend and national television involved. Otherwise, I'll have to hear how much money we are supposed to make.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
Also, can anybody post a link to anything confirming national TV for this game? The original story in the KC Star said nothing about it, and it just seemed to be born out of speculation on this site with no proof and everybody just started running with it. I hesitate to assume there will be national TV with this game until I see something official, because I remember speculation on CF about national TV being a part of our Thursday night openers when that change was first announced a couple years ago, and we all know how that turned out with two no TV games and this year TV on some obscure college sports station.

Re: What do you think of ISU-KSU at Arrowhead
From a somewhat selfish prospective, I really hate the idea of losing a home game. KC is a blast and all, but tailgating at the Jack is on my list of favorite things to do in the world.

Don't expect anyone to confirm national TV for these games. I'm sure it will be like any other Big 12 matchup. The networks will announce which games they are covering 1-2 weeks before gameday. It will all depend on how good the teams are when they match up!

I think it would be a good idea if we assumed that this game is not going to be on national TV until we hear otherwise from an official source. If it is an option for the networks to pick it up a week or two before the game, with the state of the two teams right now, it would be a pretty big stretch to get it on national TV.
It seems that many people here have accepted national TV as a fact for this arrangement, and I think that is probably a little premature at this point.
