Re: pre-game cheers

Wow, just wow guys. I don't know why you are ripping on Jeff Johnson so bad. He is the reason we have the Cyclone Power cheer. If he didn't start it, we would just be screaming "don't know the words to this stupid effing song."

Granted also I did think the CY-CL-ON-ES wasn't to great but I do like his enthusiasm. For those of you that said 99% of the Cyclone fans don't like it, or that it drives fans away, that is retarded and absurd.

Last fall we started doing the Cyclone Power cheer on our own, and at random times during a few games. That is a start to being "free" from the tyranny of Jeff Johnson.

agree.

Jeff Johnson is a wonderful guy with his heart in the right place. It's up to the fans to remove the need for Jeff in pre-game.

This happens everytime pregame cheers come up in a thread... we are not ripping Jeff Johnson, we are ripping the role he plays on the field in the pregame show. NO ONE here said Jeff is a bad guy.

Do NOT confuse "Embarressing pregame shows the likes of which don't exist in any other school's pregame program and confirm any and every joke about our school's lack of football tradition, not to mention makes our fans look terrible because we are incapable of cheering on our own" with Jeff Johnson.

We hate the pregame cheers, not the person running it. With good reason...

OK, but that's not always true. At least one person on this thread already said that they don't mind the cheers, they just don't want Jeff running them. Others have commented how annoying his voice is. Several posts have bordered on personally attacking him.

It's great that you like him. Just don't confuse you with everybody else.

I like that version of that song...cant wait to hear it!

And JJ is just a old guy screaming dont have a problem with him, I have a problem with his AGE and is position. The cheers should be more organic and not have that force feeling and thats the perception I get with any middle aged man who works for ISU leading cheers

They need to ditch the CY-CL-ONES cheer and just do the Cyclone Power.

Ok a few people said they'd rather see others do it... sometimes that arugement tends to be based on "Who the hell is Jeff Johnson, and why should I care?" But whatev.

I'll correct the statement... the majority of us aren't bashing Jeff so much as bashing the idea of cheers being led by Jeff (or anybody for that matter) before the game

Fair enough. I just wanted to point out that I think the ones that don't like Jeff are the ones Ace000087 was talking to. He also makes some good points in the rest of his post, so I didn't want to see all of that negated by a disagreement with one part of it.

Dissappointing... embarassing. Apparently Jaime thinks we need it... I don't think much happens around there without his approval/direction. If we have to do it and nothing against JJ, but at least have Cy out there or the cheer squad or something.

Re: pre-game cheers

I like Jeff, I'm one of the ones that would rather see a "fresh face" so to say leading the cheers and in a less obnoxious manner. It's probably his voice that seems obnoxious not how he's leading. I even stood next to him on the sidelines of the Texas game last year, he wasn't all "rah rah" like he is when he's with a mic and he's a very positive and friendly guy. I think most of us are just saying, if you were an out of towner and you witnessed what has gone on in pre-game without knowing who JJ is then you might have a completely different opinion as well.

Re: pre-game cheers

Do all of you who flamed Jeff Johnson earlier in the post still have a gripe? He did a great job getting me pumped yesterday and I don't see what is wrong with an enthusiastic man like him to lead 1 or 2 cheers right before kick-off.

Bad job out of all of you haters for flaming him earlier in the post. There was absolutely nothing annoying about anything that he did yesterday prior to the game. In my opinion the only annoying things that can come from Jack Trice stadium are drunk, obnoxious boo-ers and the song Sweet Caroline (Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!).

Im usually in my seat plenty early before the game. But I can not stomach him doing this. Count me in the parking lot.

Oh yeah. And why do we need to cheer when the team is in the locker room?
