pre-game cheers

I'm afraid I have some bad news for some of you. Today I went to play at destination iowa state for the incoming freshman and Jeff Johnson made mention that he would be in the middle of the field doing cheers to begin football games. I know some on this site have talked of not being a fan of that, and had been asking if he would still be doing that this year. sounds like a definate yes for this year at least.

I guess I'll drink 2 extra beers before heading into the game.

This is one "tradition" that needs to die a not-so-slow death.

Why doesn't JJ sing Sweet Caroline and kill 2 bad things with 1 act that I can avoid?

That's unfortunate. Why can't the student section handle this stuff.

Re: pre-game cheers

That is horrible news. It is downright embarrassing that we have a middle-aged man leading cheers before football games.

reserved seats this year. i'll just tailgate through the "cheering"

i dont mind the cheering itself so much. i mean i dont partake. but im more worried of the impression given to visitors.

We all remember making fun of our little brother. And then that day came when you looked at him and thought "Crap, when did he become taller than me?" There comes a time when you just know your time has passed and it's their spotlight now.

Yea, because having something corny and dumb like JJ in the field looks SO much worse than a half empty stadium at opening kickoff.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy.

Apperently they felt we weren't doing a good enough job...

The year Jeff Johnson started doing this the Atheletic Department wanted to start several new cheers, they taught it first to the students at an open practice/pep rally so they could "help" Jeff who led it on the field game day.

We've learned the cheers, let it go Jeff... (I'm sorry but he leads at a bit of a slow pace, maybe it's the delay from his microphone or something. He completely throws off the rythm that naturaly deveolops when it's led by the crowd)

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

Go Cyclones, in accordance with Prophecy

Re: pre-game cheers

For a school almost completely devoid of traditions, I don't mind ISU putting Jeff Johnson on the field to lead some pre-game cheers. He may be able to hand the duties off to the cheer squad and the band eventually, but I don't mind him continuing to be the catalyst for creating some pre-game traditions.

Re: pre-game cheers

This is horrible news.

Jeff Johnson is a great ISU employee, fan and a great person. To throw him out there again and command him to embarrass Iowa State Fans and as well as himself is a very stupid move. With a clown on the field trying to do what the cheerleaders, poms, and band should be doing is just stupid, or bush league. This is not Juco Football - this is supposed to be Division 1 Football!

By belittling JJ, and dumbing down the Cyclone fans, whomever is in charge of such things is doing ISU a disservice.

Who is making this decision? Some Anti-Pollard, Anti-Cyclone, Anti-Cheerleader, Anti-Marching Band Bozo? I know how to make ISU Football make 60 THOUSAND DOLLARS more per year.... Fire the idiot that made this decision and never replace them! (Rewards may be more or less depending upon the idiot's salary who will be eliminated).

Driving fans *away* from Jack Trice should probably not be in a successful business plan.

FFS - the Jeff Johnson pre-games were dead - and should remain so.

"We can either mimic what others do, or we can establish our own ISU traditions."
