Hoping someone here might have heard when Gene's first show will air. Monday? The following Monday is a holiday (I believe). . . . Or, will we be two games in before his show starts?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure he will have the 1st show on Monday (Labor Day).

I saw somewhere that the first show is this Monday. Sorry, I don't have a source (and I just got done chastising someone for not using a source on another thread). I think I got it in an e-mail that I've since deleted.

I am not sure, but would have to guess it would be this upcoming Monday. With the excitment leading up to Thursday, they would get some pretty good ratings and would be dumb if they didnt take advantage of that!

My sources tell me John & Gene will field some rather ridiculous questions for the call-in show.

Cyclone Jerry, Denny from Clear Lake, Mike from Waterloo, Diamond Dave, and Tommy from Des Moines are already waiting on hold. Gene will get approximately 19 seconds of air-time out of the entire hour. You're better off tuning in the following week, maybe.

Listening to the call-in show is kind of like watching The Office. The awkwardness is unbearable sometimes.

What is the over/under on Tommy from Des Moines getting in first?

For once, when the 10th fan in a row asks Gene "How are ya, coach?", I'd love to hear him be honest. Well, instead of being home with my wife and kids...or with my staff reviewing tape from our last game...or in a meeting with the players...or out for a job...or at the dentists office giving him info to share with Marty.......I'm stuck here talking to you. So how do ya think I am? | |

I just wish the people that do get through would get to the point and move it along.
*I don't care that your grandma is in her 49th year of season tickets, but that her corns are causing her to miss the first game.
*We already know that you support ISU/Gene/the team/the program. That's why you're calling in the first place. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be waiting on hold. Ask your question already.
*Stick to a single two-part question at most. You're not the econ professor from "Back to School."
*Listen to the show so you know what questions have been asked already. The third guy that asks about TV for the first game will get an electrical shock through his phone.

You're right on the mark, imo. Which is why, when I get on the shows, I say 'hi, coach, john,' and immediately ask a couple of questions that directly relate to the team or the program.
I wish more callers took my approach, that's for sure. I'm not there to pass on personal anecdotes or to chat as if we're sharing a beer. I want information, I ask questions, and I get off (so the next guy can get on).
