As long as there are trailer parks full of people with more tattoo's then teeth breeding, there will probably never be a time that the result won't grow up cheering for thug u.

Maybe you could come back with the picture of Grant Steen flipping off the ISU huddle. Stay classy Hawks. Sure have come a long way since the likes of Nile Kinnick.

If this Wegher kid wants to go to Iowa, I could not care less.

Here is the difference that I continually see on this site. Cyclone football fans are more about how hard we play and sportsmanship, yadda yadda.

Hawkeye fans expect to win b/c they have had success winning so they expect it. Where has ISU been expected to win in football?

These are very two different fan bases, one cares more about how they play, and the other cares more about wins and losses.

No surprise here.

The two biggest factors:
1) Grew up a Hawk fan
2) Wants to play RB and sees better opportunity for early PT at Iowa

ISU is doing pretty decent on the in-state front as well with lichtenberg, boffeli, and lenz.. hawks hold on the the guys in their neck of the woods

That is the difference in life too. Do I always plan to win and hope to win in everything I do? You bet. You have to if you want to have success. It does not always happen that way, and when you do fail, you get back up and keep on trying.

Cheering for a winner is easy. For most of the 80s and 90s it was easy to be a Hawkeye. Rose Bowls, a 15 game win streak over their in-state rival, favorable media exposure throughout the state. Putting on the Hawk gear meant you probably ruled the roost. During this time is when a lot of us really adopted ISU as our team, at least I did. I really enjoyed the gameday atmosphere at ISU, as well as the team. I learned to value effort and hard work as much as victories.

All this leads into the biggest difference between the two schools and their respective fan bases. ISU fans are mostly pretty humble, and can take the good natured ribbing of rivalries. Iowa got so used to being on top, and having that reaffirmed by pretty much every media outlet, that they never learned to deal with adversity. Competitions became an all or nothing proposition, only winning mattered. This persists today. I have long said that Iowa fans should be the ones clamoring for the removal of KF (HPSE). If any ISU coach had done what he had done, and permitted the continual legal problems throughout the program, I would be making sure that guy was gone.

Finally, in my opinion you cannot compare the fanbases. ISU may have not had great attendance at the Missouri game for the north championship, but we also had around 10k at KU, over the Thanksgiving weekend. I don't remember any booing of the ISU team off the field at either game.

My father and sister were at the senior day game last year in Iowa City. I know what sort of crowd that was. I also had friends in the stadium for the 2002 game in Iowa City. Needless to say, most the loud mouth jerks were nowhere to be found in the 4th quarter, so the stadium was almost all ISU by the end. It is just so indicative of the two fanbases. I am a fan of ISU, win or lose, in my experience Iowa fans are the poorest losers I have ever seen. Doubt me? Turn on soundoff sometime. Case f'ing closed.

As for Wegher, I don't care if he goes to Iowa or not. I am not a fan of Heelan, so why would I really care about him? Any high school kid that can see what is going on in Iowa City, and the complete lack of leadership or character, and still thinks this is an option for where to attend college shows me all that I need to know. As of now Iowa athletics is quickly becoming a disgrace to both the University and the State, as are those who refuse to acknowledge this.

I politely disagree with this premise. First, we're doing ok in-state. We beat Iowa for Boffeli, but Lichtenberg and Lenz are stretches that didn't have other DI interest to this point and shouldn't be compared to Davis, Wegher, or maybe even Cotton. Second, I'm pretty sure that Wegher isn't from their neck of the woods. Third, I'm still not convinced that we are out of the running for Barrent. If we have a surprising year, he could easily be swayed to stay in Iowa, and ISU has excellent connections to Valley's program.

I'm excited for this year because I think it could be the year that we make our move. Beating Iowa in Iowa City is the key. We pull that off this year, coupled with a thumping next year in Ames, and we will see Iowa high school studs finding it harder and harder to turn down ISU. Once we start going head-to-head and winning on the top Iowa talent against Iowa, we'll be where we need to be to have long-term success.

The bottom line on all the recruiting is who signs in Feb. There is a lot of potential negatives out there for the Hawks in the next 3 months. If KF can not brush away his involvement in the rape case or the Hawks crash and burn on the field again this year, most of these guys will be changing thier minds.

Don't know how the Sports Connection got their info. No one else has anything right now and no one else I've talked to knows anything about where he is heading. He is making his decision public at 8:30 tonight last I heard.

Sorry, but both Iowa and ISU have had season-ending games that neither fanbase is proud of.

Couldn't agree more - we need to get the top talent in Iowa, and get kids to choose us over the Hawks. Not getting any of the top four for 2009, especially with three of them going to Iowa, is disappointing. You said it all - a win in IC will help.

Anyone else hoping that that Wegher hits his peak in high school? Ive seen his work out and training video on YouTube, and its impressive, they have a good weight/football program there. It looks like hes a man amongst boys, but how will he do against other guys just and strong and fast as he is?

He reminds me of a local player thats currently a senior on our team, but faster, hmmmm... who would that be? He hasnt really worked out like we all hoped, unfortunately.

well lichtenberg was a 3* and boffeli was 2* so that doesnt make a lot of sense... and i never said ISU was out of the running, is said iowa doesnt have a chance to get him back.
