Regardless, they both were fine players for ISU. The both played four years, never left the program, never got in any notable trouble that I can recall, and never put themselves or the program in a bad light. Okay, somebody refresh my memory. I think DMac had set certain rules for players in the program, and Blythe and Meyer supposedly broke them before the 06 football season. If it was any other player, they would be suspended a game at least, but these two were said to have been given a pass. This is the rumor from summer of 06. This is one of the biggest reasons that the 06 season got DMac fired, at least from people I had talked to. The team didn't really have anybody to look to for leadership.

Somewhat sizable can of worms opened here and one that I knew would eventually be opened. But I wasn't gonna be the one to do it. :)

The rumor I heard was that there were a few others present at the bar where Berryman had his final incident, and that it may have been Meyer and/or Blythe. And the fact that Jason got cut loose, but nothing happened to them, didn't sit well with others on the team.
But it was just rumor and as such I wasn't about to hold it against them.

But it was just rumor and as such I wasn't about to hold it against them. I don't know the true story, that is also the rumor I heard. Also makes you wonder if that is the case then the O-Line might have allowed the floodgates to open ala "Any Given Sunday" or "The Longest Yard" to punish Meyer during the '06 season. After all, the O-line was supposed to be the team's strength, and it ended up being an absolute glaring weakness.

But I can easily see where such an occurrence would shatter team cohesion.

But I can easily see where such an occurrence would shatter team cohesion. Right. If I found out they o-line deliberately played poorly because the coach favored certain players - then shame on the offensive line. But like others, I don't believe that happened.
But it sure didn't help.

Re: Blythe is waived
Is he NFL caliber? It's pretty early for anyone to be making that call. Getting waived certainly doesn't do wonders for his chances.
The NFL is a whole different game. Success at the collegiate level is great, but if that's all it took we'd all be wearing Trevor Insley, Taylor Stubblefield, and Troy Edwards, jerseys.
I loved Todd Blythe as a Cyclone, and have great memories of his time here, but when you take off the rose colored glasses it's hard to miss his shortcomings. I'm not saying that he has no shot at an NFL career, but there is a lot that he has to overcome.

Letting a guy go by to drill your QB if he pisses you off happens at pretty much every level of FB. Letting the entire D line by in every game, on most offensive plays is a different story.

Dean Wormer was wrong. Fat, drunk and stupid was a great way to go through college (all five years of it). -

Granted a lot of ISU players are not playing for nfl contracts, but in the end im sure its the dream of almost all college players to make the pros.
Seriously whos gonna dog it intentionally with that at stake?

Seriously whos gonna dog it intentionally with that at stake? Agreed. Granted, I only played High School Football, but, I hated my High School Coach, couldn't stand the guy. I also didn't care for some preferential treatment that others on the team got from him. In the end, it never effected the way I played. I was out there for my team and myself. To do the best I could. I could maybe see it happening on a play or two during practice, but not a whole season.

Re: Blythe is waived
Who cares how great Todd will be in the NFL. Most likely he will never play. BUT he was the best receiver in ISU history. Gotta give him credit for that.
