Hats off - great tailgating experience

I had heard that ISU fans knew how to tailgate, wow, almost like being at Arrowhead for a Cheifs game. My step-dad and I were in the grass lot south of the stadium. Had a great time soaking it all in and people watching. The only negative would be the trash as we were walking back to the car.

Game wise, turnovers killed SDSU, heck on paper at half, was pretty much dead even.

Turnovers killed both teams in the first half. ISU forced their way through and made the plays they needed to make.

This is a pretty common thought with SDSU fans. However, they have selective memory. If ISU doens't turn it over 3 times in the first half, including one going into the end zone and one on a punt return (a 50 yard turnover), then it could have been REALLY ugly.

Turnovers hurt both teams early. To say SDSU would have been it without turnovers is naive. All of those picks were ugly too, thrown right to guys. But ya, if they wouldn't have sucked, it would have been close.

"Seiler, on the option...trying to the turn the corner...HE POPS FREE to 40, to midfield, to the 40, to the 30, to the 20, inside the 10. Marvin Seiler almost breaks it all the way 77 yards to the Nebraska 3 yard line."

Both teams played sloppy ball in the first half, but ISU cleaned it up in the second when SDSU did not.

I will say I was a bit nervous after the second ISU fumble. Thank goodness for SDSU's turnovers right after the ISU fumbles. I credit our defense for those.

The only time this game was even was prior to the end of the first 3 1/2 minutes.

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

I think what he is referring to is the box score. It looks even on paper.

Team Stat Comparison
SDSU - ISU
1st Downs 18 20
Total Yards 350 388
Passing 170 159
Rushing 180 229
Penalties 5-30 6-64
3rd Down Conversions 6-14 6-12
4th Down Conversions 1-1 1-1
Turnovers 6 3
Possession 30:33 29:27

This is a great example of why box scores can be so misleading. They never stopped us in while we forced 2 punts in the 1st half. I only give them credit for 1 of our turnovers as the other 2 were more bad plays on our part. We made more plays to force turnovers with LB drops plus DB reaction and closing speed that they don't see at their level of competition.

We also started 4 drives in their territory compared to them with 2 in ours. This limits the number of yards that you can put up on your scoring drives. The 1st half was not even close to being "dead even".

They can't even claim that they won the 2nd half. I hope that our program is past making such meaningless claims.
