Pre-Game Last Night

Did anyone else notice that they were running behind last night? We noticed that the band started the national anthem before the ROTC was even on the field. Then the band was still playing fights through the first half of the video presentation. Then after fights Jeff was trying to talk some more but they had cut his microphone becuase the video introduction was going. Not too sure what happened there but they kind of dropped the ball just like the team in the first half!

I did notice the flags not being out before they started the anthem, thought that was weird, maybe just haven't gotten the timing right yet?

Did anyone else notice that the opening fight song was a bit slow? Are the new band members still learning the song?

Re: Pre-Game Last Night

The band entered the field the same time as we always have. We are however taking the tempo a little slower than in the past which may have affected it a little, but not by much. I didn't know about the flags not being on the field. Usually we wait until that is taken care of before we start the anthem. First game kinks will happen we did only have 8 days of practice with the full band before game day this year.

As for Jeff getting his mich cut. Are you actually complaining about that? I'd love it if the student section just started Cyclone Power and that went until the intro music on the board started, followed by fights as the players came out. Timing wise for the end of pregame I thought that was great. I'd just like to here Cyclone-Power get stronger as soon as the band starts going to form the tunnel.

Fanfare was way slow, which forced the rest of the sequence into a slower tempo.

No that was deliberate. The director sent a recording of last year's pregame to the guy who actually wrote the fanfare that opens up pregame and he said we were taking it to fast. There's a lot of fast rifts and runs in that song that get covered up or glossed over at a fast tempo.

Not saying I'm a fan of the new tempo, just explaining why it was there.

Correct, the fanfare tempo dictates all of pregame until God Bless America. There is no other time to alter the tempo until pregame until then as it is.

Re: Pre-Game Last Night

If you are talking about the first fight song played during pregame, actually we are taking all of pregame at a slower tempo this year. The director made that decision because Fanfare (the first song we play during pregame) is supposed to be played at a much slower tempo than we were playing it so once that song was slowed down we had to slow that whole opening series down.

The timing of the whole thing was way, way off. Hopefully they get that fixed because it looked (and sounded) pretty bad.

I hope I'm not alone when I say I'm not a fan at all of the slower tempo. It just doesn't have the same pep and energy as the original did.

Fights was played way to slow the first time definitely. Whether on purpose or not, still too slow.

Why can't you change tempo from song to song?

Re: Pre-Game Last Night

Just posted this in another thread but did anyone else notice the fog? It was really thick and te tunnel was lined up directly with the goal post! Several players actually ran into the goal post coming out of the tunnel. Pretty funny but hopefully we do not lose anyone to injury because of it? Also, am I the only one that finds it a bit odd that the players walk down a flight of stairs on their way to the stadium? Seems risky to have 100 full dressed football players cleats and all marching down a flight of stairs before the game. One slip and everyone goes!!

Couldn't agree more. Get rid of the cheerleader before the game.

The timing was off, and the band was playing the same time as the video, no ones fault, just something to correct and time better.

Not impressed with the intro video or music. Not load enough, not exciting enough, just didn't get me or the stadium pumped.

A bit over protective don't you think. I see your point though just reminds me of a mother with her newborn.

Just the way pregame runs currently from one song into the next is all one tempo that isn't counted off in between. Right now there is a set number of beats between the songs at the initial tempo. Actually Fanfare and the First time through fights is the only time where there is any counts between the songs the rest are all straight into the next song. I'm actually thinking of talking to the director about it to ask if we can get a new tempo for when we start the first fights (which is the only point until god bless america where there is a break between songs to actually do one it's just a matter of changing how we currently transition it), but other than that there isn't a place to get a new tempo without stopping what is actually a nice momentum and flow to start it faster.
