Replay of SDSU-ISU on FCS Central

Tonight 8/29/08, they will televise the game again on FCS Central. I recently moved down to St Louis, MO from Cedar Rapids, IA. I am glad the cyclones made it on national television on their first game of this season.

We are so used to playing down to the level of the opponent that this 44-17 victory seems so rare in ISU history. The first game of a season has always been poor for Iowa State, we just had a different showing last night. Amazingly entertaining - I remember back in those days the stadium would clear out after the half time. We actually had at least 3/4th of the crowd still in the stadium at the start of the 4th quarter.

I agree. I was thinking that under Coach Mac, we would have won by 7. I liked how we didn't sit down and "play not to lose".

One thing that impressed me is that we continued to run the entire offense in the 2nd half after building a comfortable lead. There were several run attempts that were stuffed by an overloaded SDSU defense. We countered by throwing the ball down field with success. The only thing that we didn't do was to run more counters, boots, reverses, and misdirection. We could have probably ripped off some huge gains the way that SDSU was overplaying. Not a real concern as we definitely have those weapons in our offensive package.

I like the final score, but let's not forget, we did have some major wins against lesser opponents under Mac also, for example Ball State 38-0 in 1998(?).

is the replay on in the Des Moines area, if so what channel. I looked and couldnt find it. I was at the game but want to see the game again.

It is nice for them to have a few breaks and show the game in between the infomercial for ExtenZe.

I look at it this way.....

We won 44-17, and the game was not that close. We didn't play all that well either.

Our first team defense was pretty damn stout against SDSU. We started playing backups in the first quarter, so a lot of guys got a lot of action, especially at CB.

We also didn't do much to open up our playbook a bunch.

Right. I think we could have won 60-3 or so if we just avoid a couple of mistakes. That was a lot of fun. A blowout win that shows a whole lot of room to improve. It makes the Kool-Aid taste sweeter
