Re: McFarland says QB situation will likely be the same

It's nice to be able to read those articles, but I have a problem with the premise of their first question.

Cyclone Sports Report: Did Austen Arnaud take a step towards becoming the full-time starter as a result of the South Dakota State game?

Robert McFarland: I felt they both played well after watching the tape. They both moved the team and were able to make plays so I would say it will probably be about the same as week one. We'll see how practice goes before we make a final decision but I would say that Austen will probably get things started again.

The way the question was phrased makes it seem that the reporter has a bias against Bates. Just like when reporters ask McCain if Palin was properly vetted. Sorry to bring politics up, but you get my point.

That makes me a sad panda. Much more of this and it's going to seem like their too timid to make a decision. Either say you're going to be using them both for the season, or say you'll be using one.

And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

I think it is going to be like this the entire year. Both will continue to see snaps.

Whose to say the coaches haven't made a decision? Maybe they have decided to use both for the season and have communicated that to the players, but want to wait before they make that information public. Plus, I don't think you ever make a decision like that public one game into the season. You just don't know how these guys are going to perform against Big 12 competition.

Well, what they do behind closed doors doesn't help me, I only know what they tell me. And they tell me they haven't made a decision. If they have, good, but as far as I know they haven't.

But they have made a decision, both will continue to play. It makes it tougher for opponents to get ready for us, and they are both doing a fine job.

I think it will come down to how they fare in B12 play. That could seal the deal. Using both doesn't turn me off at all and I would love to see it. I also like the factor that it makes it tougher to prepare for us. But in the end I see one man standing.

Harriet Michaels: Do you actually like haggis?
Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

I really didn't expect a decision after this first game. Really, unless we played terribly, this was just a beefed up scrimmage for us. No offense to SDSU, but they did not match up against us at all. This weeks game, I have a feeling, will tell more. What will happen when we face D-1 competition? Then again, if we keep winning with both of them playing, then what's the harm?

Re: McFarland says QB situation will likely be the same

i for one like the two qb look both bring a different dynamic to the game and really keep the deffense on there toes both can run and throw though there strengths are more one than the other both can move the ball and seem to command respect from the players i think they should both play every game its tough to deffend a team with two good qbs that can come in and do different things very well

I don't care if they use 4 QBs, just as long as tehy are movign the ball and scoring.

Sorry wrong answer...most people feel that it needs to be one or the other. personally, I don't care as long as it doesn't cause problems with the team.

AA - better deep passer and Bates - better runner. Both have different giofts to bring to the table. When it is warm outside, AA passes. When it turns cold outside , Bates runs. I also think they want to develop talent for next year. Chiz wants to keep compeition going on his squad as he devlops depth - even at qb.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.
