Chizik needs you at 4 p.m.

Just got this e-mail. Note Chizik's first sentence in the fourth paragraph (5th word).

-------
Sept. 5, 2008
Step up for “Cyclone Spirit Walk”
Iowa State football coach Gene Chizik is calling your number. That’s because you park just north of Jack Trice Stadium and are a short stroll from where his team begins its trek to the locker room.

The second-year coach is asking all fans - but especially the Cyclone Club members who park near tent row - to form a massive tunnel for the players and coaches to walk to the locker room.

According to Chizik, the “Cyclone Spirit Walk,” which debuted last year, is an impressive motivator for his current club and a huge selling point for recruits who are in Ames for campus visits.

“We’ve got a good think going and I want to personally encourage the people near tent row to join in the fun and create a spectacular environment for our players,” Chizik said. “Iowa State fans are awesome and I get asked frequently ‘how can we help?’ Here’s the answer, become a weekly factor in the Cyclone Spirit Walk.”

Iowa State’s marching band and spirit squads will add to the festivities. The football team should arrive at the stadium around 4 p.m. Saturday (two hours prior to kickoff). Listen for sounds from the band as a cue to starting lining up. Fans are reminded that the “Cyclone Spirit Walk” will take place at every ISU home game.

I am all for it but dont arrive 20 minutes prior to the advertized time.

If you did go to the spirit walk last week Coach looked so pumped when he got off the bus.

Does anyone know where this massive tunnel is to start and stop? Sounds like a great tradition to begin, and I'd like to participate at the home games I attend (I think a lot of other people probably share that same opinion). Any more details on this would be cool from those of you that have experienced it.

i usually just stand in the middle of Fourth street between tent row and the Jacobson building and the tunnel will form with the band and cheerleaders.

they stop the buses a few yards from the southern most tent (by the firetruck)

This always sounded like fun but I was usually already in line waiting to get into the stadium

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

Get there plenty early. I you will miss it otherwise. Might be 15 minutes late or 15 minutes early.

Re: Chizik needs you at 4 p.m.

We've been doing it for 9 years.

The buses will come in from Center Street, and turn down tent row between B3 and C3. They stop a few hundred feet from S. 4th, just NW of the Jacobsen.

Listen for the firetruck and police sirens and look for the buses anywhere from 3:45-4:05. My assumption is we will have the firetruck in position long before so that we don't miss it this week. We run the sirens on the firetruck from the RV lot, D3, to our holding spot between B3 and C3. You should hear them if you are anywhere North of the stadium.

When the buses and police turn on to Center, we will fire up the sirens on the truck again and you will know that it's time to gather!

Now that is how to tackle!

For those of you who pass out before the games, you could still show support by passing out near the spirit walk.

As with many of you, my experience with ISU is rich with spirited memories of tough games, amazing plays, and the loud, brash, and brassy people who once populated the cardinal and gold landscape. We need the emotions generated by a spirit walk; fans and players need the noise of respect and approval. There needs to be a big-time bonding. The players need to carry that into the locker room as they prepare for the game. The fan, the 12th man, also needs to carry that to his seat, charged with passion and ready to generate the noise that wins football games.
