Lack of a fear gene.
Lack of a fear gene.
Kick Returners can have just straight speed. Now obviously the really good ones have both (Hester, Dante Hall, etc) but a lot of times you see a different punt returner in than a kick returner.
I am trying to think of the last time where we had somebody do both?
I think the most important aspect of a punt returner is to be able catch the ball in traffic. Kickoff returners have no one around them when they field the ball.
does anybody notice any players on these 2 deeps who ARE NOT playing? there is quite a rotation going on so "starter" is pretty much null. and there are some players not on the 2 deeps getting good time (houston jones). but does anyone see the opposite?
LJ is exciting as heck, anyone else with me that he is due for taking one to the house? Just seems like he has a chance to go all the way everytime we return the ball.
I am a lot more pumped about our special teams last year in ALL aspects compared to last year. Our kickoffs are farther. our coverage is better. opponents are starting farther back. our FG's and Extra point seem nowhere near as scary to watch. And Mike Brandtner is a good punter who we have not had to use much at all. Not to mention we are blocking punts. I just hope no one fakes a punt on us/we cover it.
Punt returners have to have more guts, have to make the fair catch not fair catch call, are back all by themself and have to catch ball that is kicked higher, most kick off go to about the same place yardage wise punts dont, if a punt block is on someone will be unblocked going down the field as well, it is eaiser to set up a wall on a kick off than a punt.
Gene is doing a good job of building up depth and competition. McC had problems getting the competition in practice.
Practice hard, probably play better at game time.
Does the team stay in CR or IC before the game?
Punt returner = sure-handed, good field-vision, smart routes.
Kickoff returner = Reckless, straight-ahead, devil-may-care bomber.
anyone remember De'Andre Jackson at Iowa 2006.... oh so close, oh such a way to start the game. Lets do it again
