ISU @ Iowa - post-game thread

A helmet to helmet hit on the QB as he releases the ball, or a WR who is laid out or jumping, you will see that call, usually only in the NFL though.

But I have never seen that penalty called on a receiver who is running with the ball in the flat. Ever. At any level. That terrible call played a huge role in the game.

Let the players decide the game on the field. Awful call.

I'll ask again--how often do "strong, hard, fundamental tackles" by 5-10 179 pound freshman cornerbacks drop 6-4 250 lb tight ends in their tracks? I'm not even sure that Antoine Winfield is up to that one.

Agree. Nothing funny about making a play that results in a huge penalty, which results in the TD for your opponent. I think they will clean up these useless stupid penalties as the year goes on.

Its a dead ball foul, didnt think you decline one of those. You cannot decline a false start.

So far, 3 games down and in all 3 we've had dumb penalties like this. I'm waiting for this clean up to start taking place.

I agree!! It was the momentium killer in this game. I would hate to be those officals if they come to a home game for ISU. And yes they were big 12 officals.

in the car on the eay h omen from the game... the better team won today. if you cant score a touch with multiple redzone trips you won't win.
also i wasnt happy with the tineouts on offense.

This game was closer than most Hawks thought it was going to be, and closer than even the final score reveals.

Heck, SouthernHawk would probably say it was dead even.

Faith? I know that Chizik will get us where were going. This game wasn't perfect, but they showed poise, and after dealing with UNLV, I really don't think that Kansas is going to enjoy their trip to Ames.

No, I'm thinking of LJ's. You can tee off on a bigger dude. And hitting someone like that will do nothing but hurt people. And if you whiff, which we seem to often do, you get nothing out of it. A proper form tackle t here, and Moeaki is down where he stands. LJ is still in the game, and is still returning punts.

He was leading with his head, and it was helmet to helmet. He didn't even have his arms out. He launched himself at Moeaki. It was a legit call.

A blown out knee won't paralyze someone for life. And it won't kill someone. And yes, there are rules to protect knees - chop blocks for instance.

Looks like a shoulder to me, in fact, it seems the Iowa player is driving his helmet into our guy's head.

Yes I thought this staff would clean this stuff up. Very costly for the team.

Apparently you missed the part where he said "hit with the shoulders first"...conveying that he led with the shoulders, then helmets hit. The point of a "helmet to helmet" penalty is to prevent defenders from leading with their helmet--which LJ didn't.

Who in their right mind is going to attack helmet to helmet a guy six inches, seventy pounds, and four years bigger than you?! Especially when he has some momentum?
