They could... but who wants artificial turf?

Oddly enough, I'm reasonably sure that they had other priorities for the available cash this summer, in case you hadn't noticed what happened in Iowa City.

They didn't need to when they upgraded.

Let's see if I can explain. Those drainage pipes are set in sand--it's supposed to aid in drainage under normal conditions, so that if it rains just before a game, the field clears quickly.

Only, if you dump a deluge on the field, like, the type of rain that floods most of the state, that sand filters into, and eventually fills the pipes.

Yes, I'm sure they could have fixed it over the summer. However, that would have required not just turf, but an entire reinstallation. Oddly enough, since even the Carver-Hawkeye renovation plans were postponed because of the damage, I have this strange suspicion that all available dollars went into opening buildings before classes started, rather than to sports.

I would also guess that they hoped that there wouldn't be a deluge the night before any particular weekend--but obviously, that didn't work out as well as they hoped.

Please, go ahead, rag on Iowa about something they couldn't spend money on because of flood repairs. I have a cousin and his family who used to live in Oakville--up until last summer. Guess what that means?
