I'm a younger fan that hates change. I feel extremely blessed to have always been able to have a good job and enough money to do some of the things I like to do and a big one is enjoying ISU athletics.
I was ****** when Dan was fired. I was ****** when Wayne was fired. In hindsight I think the correct choices were made and eventually you just have to get on board. No use complaining about it or not getting tickets because of a coaching/color change. As long as I can afford to make ISU athletics a part of my and my family's life I'll probably continue to do it. If I get priced out, I'm SOL. I know I've been a complainer about this in the past but there is a reason while some people go to the Bahamas on vaca and some of us go camping.
For perspective I didn't get a cell phone until I was 24 three years ago, and it was because my new wife made me. I give up the ways of the past grudgingly.
Mac falls into the same category as Johnny Orr, I believe. Both were very good coaches for us but got to a point where they really weren't progressing anymore, so we either make a change, or start going backwards.
IMO, there have only been three changes that are worth my effort to discuss as it relates to ISU athletics.
1 - We have a university president that believes strongly in the success of ISU athletics.
2 - We have an AD that is pulling out all the stops to bring in competitive coaches with the directive to bring in high level B12/national caliber personnel - and win.
3 - We have coaches in our major programs that are going after talent and developing that talent.
I've been a fan since the 70's, and I do not remember that combination. We've had pieces, but not the combination.
I'm more mixed with McD, but I will give him credit for building the kids physically. But his team needs to improve from start to finish next season, or many will be talking about "change" again.
Chizik has me juiced. Recruiting AND developing AND improving over the course of a season.
A few years from now, anybody that gave up season tickets because of pricing, seat changes, color changes, logo changes - whatever - will be very disappointed.
It always starts at the top, and execution has to take place at every point in the chain. The links are all there. Beyond those things - change what you want - not going to bother me.
I am a young fan. I will say this, I love the additions to Jack Trice and the other facility upgrades we are going after for all of our sports. It is what is needed to be competitive.
I don't like the logo change. I probably never will, with the old logo tatooed on my body it is going to be hard to get over that.
You can never please everyone and if you try to do that everyday is going to be a failure. I like some of the things Jamie is doing, I don't like others. That is the way it is going to be most of the time.
I watched Moe Nichols run the single wing at ISC.
I am excited about the stadium renovations.
I think Chiz will get us back to respectibility, but the B12 is a much tougher job than the old B8. I don't se us ever competing on a level of TU and OU.
I am watching the replay on BTN again and I think the logo stands out pretty well on the helmets. HD helps too.
Now seriously is that how old people see things at ISU.
Dan McCarney = greatest coach
Jamie Pollard = Devil and needs to be fired
New Color and logo = crap
New updates at stadium = unnecessary
Gene Chizik = in over his head
Winning cures all ills. If we consistently win, make bowl games typical and BXII North titles occasional and win the BXII under Gene;
Dan McCarney = good coach, brought us up to mediocrity
Jamie Pollard = visionary AD with brass balls
New color and logo = seen everywhere all the time
New updates at stadium = required for a program of our calibur
Gene Chizik = folk hero
I was at ISU for Clay Stapletons last year. I have always blamed ISU football program being bad on Woody Hayes. Had Woody not hit the Clemson Linebacker (can't remember the bowl game) he wouldn't have been fired and Earl Bruce would have stayed and I believe that Bruce was in the process of making ISU a football power. You have to remember that when Bruce was fired from Ohio State he had the best winning percentage of any active coach at the time. He was fire because he couldn't beat Michigan on a regular basis. Then Max Urich made the mistake of not hiring Cooper who wanted to come to ISU in the worst way.
Mac brought back ISU but could not get them to the next tier, which I do believe Chizik will be able to do. I am real happy that we went back to the correct ISU colors and Jamie Pollard is the best thing to happen to ISU. I just wish he would have been here 2 years earlier.
