Who cares? I'm not an Iowa State fan because we won X amount of games, or have appeared in x amount of bowl games, yada, yada. I'm a fan, because no matter how bad we are, It is still a good time, the fans are good people, and I spent 5 of the best years of my life there, and that was at the end of the Walden era, and the beginning of the McCarney era. It don't get much worse than that. I think the fact that Iowa State hasn't had much success makes us better fans anyway, because we do appreciate the good times more.

I don't get the point of the discussion, other than to put someone down. "Being nice" or not, your "friend" is being snarky (did I use that word right?). It's kinda like saying that because you're a virgin at age eighteen, you're always going to be a virgin.
Uh, or forty, for that matter.

We are way not the worst team in the history of the Big 12. We're the second worst. Since it's inception, Baylor's conference football record is 11-85. Ours is 28-68.

What the hell difference does it make? Obviously we are not Oklahoma but to say programs like KU, KSU, Baylor or even Mizzou some how have tons more tradition than us is just dumb.
More importantly what happens on Oct. 18 when we beat nebraska? I'd tell my "nebraska friend" to go F himself.

I thought Big 12 play did not commence until fall of 1996?
With the exception of last year and this year we had only one coach during our time in the Big 12 for FB. Over those 11 years of Big 12 play under McCarney we were 26-62 in conference games. Baylor was 11-77 and KU was 23-65 during that same period...they are the only two teams with worse FB records.
Wow, I stand corrected...McCarney really did a great job at ISU (tongue firmly in cheek)...how can people continue to pine away for Danny Mac is just beyond me.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

And I think if you're talking about the history of the Big 12, you should only talk about what the teams have done since they entered the Big 12, which was in 1996.

C'mon, all of you. Let's get rid of this freaking loser mentality. Anyone care to guess how many years it was for a basketball conference title before '00, and Fizer and Tinsley? It means nothing. | | |

Holy crap. Is he right? I started thinking of the schools we've been historically better than or at least on par with.
Texas--No
Oklahoma--No
Nebraska--No
Colorado--No
OK State--No
A&M--No
Texas Tech--No
Kansas--No
K State--No
Mizzou--No
Baylor---??
He says no and that Baylor won their conference a couple times right before joining the Big 12.
Is he wrong? I'd like to believe that he is, but other than Baylor, I can't see how we're even close to the accomplishments of the teams other than Baylor.
Maybe you've all realized this, but I had never really thought of it this way. It's pretty sobering. are the cubs the worst team in the history of baseball?

And I think if you're talking about the history of the Big 12, you should only talk about what the teams have done since they entered the Big 12, which was in 1996. The basis for their conference championship that year was the fact that Texas A&M, who went 6-0-1 against conference opponents, was on probation and thus ineligible for the conference title by Southwest Conference rules. Thus, the second-place team was declared conference champion. In this case, 5 teams were tied for second at 4-3 (while Houston and SMU missed brought up the rear of the conference standings at 1-6 an 0-6-1, respectively). Therefore, those 5 teams were all declared conference champions. Wow. That would have been a great year to be a mediocre team in the SWC. Basically all you had to do was stay off of probation and you got yourself a championship trophy.

History is bunk.
I'm more concerned with the future, and I think our programs are healthy and headed in the right direction.
