Yeah, he should've been more like this guy and wore Cyclone gear to a game that had nothing to do with them. |
And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

He was half of a dynamic duo in high school with Husker WR Niles Paul. I assume that he simply took advantage of an opportunity to watch former teammates and friends play in a high profile game. I seem to recall Billups doing the same thing a few years ago.

I want to get my 300th post. who cares if he wasn't wearing ISU gear. I think lots of players prob do this if they go home, their home town team is playing and they want to watch some of their buddies. Brandon Jacobs from the Giants was at a Rutgers-sombody game earlier this year. He had no Giants gear on. He did have some sort of medallion around his neck as big as a steering wheel though.

It is called having a little class. You don't rub it into the locals when you've chosen to go to an opposing out-of-state school by wearing your chosen school colors to one of their home games. Pleeez!
Bates shows he's a class act and that his attending the game wasn't about him (and thus not purposely drawing attention to himself by wearing ISU gear).

I really don't care much for either team. If I had tickets to the Nebby VaTech game, I'd have went. And personally, I think it's tacky to wear colors and especially gear from another school that is not playing in the game. Would I wear my gear to the bars or around town, of course. For the game though, If I didn't have an affiliation to either team, I'd go neutral. I'd be far more concerned if he had been wearing Nebraska or VaTech colors than what he did by going neutral. Plus, I just realized how bad a week off is for us. It really gives our crazy little minds time to wonder doesn't it? I know most of us here are pretty well invested in the Cyclones. It is, in a lot of ways, one of the more important things in our lives. Besides family, health and happiness. We have to stop taking everything so personally though, when someone doesn't go balls out over the top for the Cyclones like we do.

I'm an old dude (47) and I went to the Northwestern / Iowa game last weekend. I was most decidedly dressed neutrally - did not want to look like that idiot in Las Vegas. There is no way I'd expect Bates or any other player to put themselves in harms way in the stands like that.
By the way, what a beautiful day it was in Iowa City last Saturday! If you want to develop a poker face, go to your rival's games when your team isn't there!

You're making too much of this. How much crap would someone take wearing ISU clothes at Nebby? a lot. its not worth it. good move by philip. stop reading into this so much.
that being said. i love the smack i get when i wear isu stuff in nebraska. when i pack my suitcase i make sure everything i throw in says iowa state on it.

We all remember making fun of our little brother. And then that day came when you looked at him and thought "Crap, when did he become taller than me?" There comes a time when you just know your time has passed and it's their spotlight now.

So if he would've been there in an ISU blouse and skirt - all would be ok?

Phillip and Niles were high school teammates and formed a great pass-catch duo. IIRC, they're really good friends, too.
So, according to Phillip himself, he was at the game to see a good friend play. (And, hey, he got a little scouting in on the Nebraska defense, too.)

Really don't know why this is a topic of discussion. He dressed neutral...(that says he is smart.) Also, went to go see a buddy play on an off week... (good friend.) I would also like to think that he was getting in a little scouting action... cause he wants to beat Nebraska in a couple weeks.
That's it. Go Clones-

In similar news, PB was seen wearing an orange shirt with black shoes a few days ago...looks like the Pokes may be getting to him... |

People. people, people. Obviously PB went to Lincoln in order to get Niles Paul to transfer to Ames, and was incognito in his secret agent role.
