I am going to the Nebraska/Missouri game with my 83 year old father. I certainly will not be wearing purple, red, black, or gold. Dad, on the other hand, will be decked out in red like most Husker fans.
My guess is that Bates wanted to go to the game and enjoy himself. He probably had fun watching old friends play. It is easy to fly under the radar of the public eye in the middle of 85,000 people unless you do something obvious to make yourself stand out. No way would a kid with Bates' head want to rile up a bunch of drunk Husker fans for the fun of it. He would love to do it but only on the field wearing Cardinal and Gold.

Weren't we just ripping this one tool last week for wearing his Hawkeye gear to the ISU-UNLV game? And now we're ripping on Bates because he wasn't that same kind of tool at the Nebraska-Virginia Tech game?

I am married to a Hawk fan (it's not her fault...she has lived her entire life in Iowa and didn't attend Iowa State, so she is automatically going to be a Hawkeye fan), but she has no ill will against Iowa State and wears ISU gear to all Clone games that aren't against Iowa because I am an alum and she loves me. In return we ocassionally go to games at Kinnick that don't involve ISU and I wear a Hawkeye shirt even though I HATE the Hawkeyes with my entire being and wish nothing but bad things for them. I do NOT cheer for them and I very much hope that they lose when I am at the games, but I keep it bottled inside. My wife knows all of that and appreciates the outer effort that I make for her because she knows that it is the ultimate showing of love.

Somehow I convinced her to become this huge Iowa State fan.

Just means you aren't trying hard enough, buddy It is going to take some time though. We've only been married for a few years and I have 30+ years of Hawkeye brainwashing to work against. The fact that she actually cheers for the Clones against everyone except Iowa and owns more than a couple of ISU shirts is a good start I think.
Maybe within the next 5 years or so I can get the ship righted.

Maybe within the next 5 years or so I can get the ship righted. I've been married for 5 days short of two years and my wife was 26 when we got married - and I undid that many years of brainwashing in a matter of months.
